On August 14, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced the recruitment of more than 6,000 teachers for public schools from kindergarten to high school, under the Department and under the People's Committees of wards, communes, and special zones in the area, phase 1 of the 2025-2026 school year.
According to the announcement, 244 public schools under the Department need to recruit 671 teachers, of which region 1 (former Ho Chi Minh City) needs to recruit 460 teachers; region 2 (former Binh Duong province) needs to recruit 157 teachers; region 3 (former Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) needs to recruit 54 teachers.
Along with that, public schools under the People's Committees of wards, communes and special zones in the area need to recruit 5,726 teachers (615 teachers for preschool level; 2,040 teachers for primary level; 3,071 teachers for secondary level); of which area 1 needs to recruit 3,089 teachers, area 2 needs to recruit 1,990 teachers, area 3 needs to recruit 647 teachers.
Each job position has its own standards and conditions, but the general condition for preschool teachers is to have a degree from a college of education or higher.
The positions of teachers at primary, secondary and high schools require a bachelor's degree or higher in teacher training; in case of having a bachelor's degree in a relevant major but not in teacher training, a certificate of pedagogical training is required.
The city's teacher recruitment is conducted in two rounds. Round 1 reviews applications based on job position requirements; if qualified, candidates will continue to participate in round 2 of the professional practice exam.
According to plan, starting from October, the City will have new teachers taking up positions at schools.
Specifically, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will receive applications for teacher recruitment from August 14 to September 12. It is expected that from September 15 to 18, the Department will announce the results of the first round of recruitment and organize the second round of recruitment from September 22 to 25; the recruitment results will be announced from September 25 to 27 and from October 1 to November 5, the successful candidates will go to schools to receive their assignments.
In previous years, based on actual needs, the City Department of Education and Training and the People's Committees of districts organized the recruitment of teachers for affiliated public service units to supplement and stabilize personnel for the next school year.
Districts organize the recruitment of teachers for preschool to junior high school; the Department of Education and Training recruits teachers for high school. This year, implementing the organization of two-level local government, the Department organizes the recruitment of teachers for all levels from preschool to high school.
After the merger, in the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have more than 2.5 million students from kindergarten to high school (an increase of more than 39,600 students compared to the previous school year). The whole city has more than 3,500 schools from kindergarten to high school and nearly 3,400 private independent kindergarten groups and classes; the number of teachers at all levels is up to more than 110,000 people.
Along with the shortage of teachers in some subjects that has been happening for many years due to the lack of recruitment, this new school year, the City plans to put into use many new schools, so the need to recruit teachers has increased.
As the new school year is approaching, recruiting new teachers is a hot issue that localities and schools are particularly concerned about, with the desire to promptly supplement the team to ensure teaching tasks.
The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that, along with recruiting new teachers, in the immediate future, the education sector will continue to mobilize and transfer teachers according to their wishes to solve the problem of local teacher surplus and shortage in some subjects, some areas, and schools.
The mobilization of teachers to fundamentally solve the problem of local teacher surplus and shortage will be implemented when the Law on Teachers takes effect from January 1, 2026.
