Ho Chi Minh City tightens management to prevent 'rip-offs' of tourists

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued an urgent dispatch directing the Department of Tourism to strengthen state management to improve the efficiency of welcoming international tourists. This move is in accordance with the direction from the Government Office in Official Dispatch No. 6741/VPCP-KGVX dated July 21, 2025.

According to the direction, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested the Department of Tourism to closely coordinate with relevant agencies and units to synchronously deploy many solutions. In particular, the Department of Tourism is required to strengthen the management of tourist destinations, regularly monitor and grasp the situation to promptly handle problems arising in the process of welcoming international visitors.

At the same time, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also requested the Department of Tourism to closely coordinate with relevant agencies and units to promote propaganda and education on civilized tourism awareness in the community. Thereby, it is necessary to ensure security, order, social safety, environmental sanitation and food safety at tourist attractions.

In addition, the document also directed functional forces to strengthen inspection and examination of service quality and tourism business conditions in the area.

This is to promptly detect and resolutely handle all violations of the law in the tourism sector, including: price gouging, defrauding tourists, commercial fraud, illegal tour guide activities...

To improve the effectiveness of welcoming international tourists, the document requires the Department of Tourism and related units to develop and improve channels for receiving feedback from tourists. These channels may include: hotlines, tourist support centers, smart tourism applications, etc., to promptly receive and resolve suggestions and feedback and support management work, ensuring maximum safety for tourists.

In the process of managing tourism activities, if any problems arise beyond the authority, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requests the Department of Tourism to synthesize and promptly report to the City People's Committee for handling.
