Ca Mau City - the southernmost urban area of the country, established on April 14, 1999, was recognized by the Prime Minister in 2010 as a type II urban area under Ca Mau province (according to Decision No. 1373/QD-TTg dated August 6, 2010).
Before October 2024, the city will be organized into 17 commune-level administrative units (AUUs), including 10 wards (wards: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Tan Thanh, Tan Xuyen) and 7 communes (Hoa Tan, Hoa Thanh, Dinh Binh, Tan Thanh, Ly Van Lam, Tac Van, An Xuyen).
On October 24, 2024, the National Assembly Standing Committee issued Resolution No. 1252/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of Ca Mau province in the period of 2023-2025. Accordingly, Ca Mau city has 16 commune-level administrative units (including 9 wards and 7 communes), of which Ward 2 and Ward 4 are merged into Ward 2 (new), at the same time, some other administrative boundaries are also adjusted to suit the reality and urban development planning.
The City Party Committee currently has 59 grassroots party organizations with a total of 8,916 party members, operating in different forms, clearly reflecting the role of comprehensive leadership in the locality.

Economic growth rate in 2024 will reach 9.63%. Economic structure will shift in the right direction: Services account for 64.02%, industry - construction accounts for 32.28%, agriculture accounts for 3.59%. Average income per capita will reach about 123 million VND/person/year. The trade - service sector continues to play a key role, with a network of supermarkets, shopping malls, and traditional markets being invested in and upgraded. Services: logistics, banking, telecommunications, transportation... are increasingly developing in a modern direction, well meeting the needs of people and businesses. Many new business models, applying digital technology, have emerged, promoting digital transformation in commerce.
Urban space is increasingly expanding, the traffic system is synchronous. Many key projects have been completed and put into use, contributing to changing the city's appearance. By 2024, the city will have 7/9 wards meeting civilized urban standards. Natural resource and environmental management is regularly concerned, aiming for sustainable and modern development.
The city completed the task of building new rural areas in 2020, currently has 3 communes meeting advanced new rural standards. The OCOP program achieved many positive results, with 37 products of 19 entities recognized (12 products meeting 4-star standards, 25 products meeting 3-star standards).
The school system has been streamlined and streamlined, with 56/69 schools meeting national standards. Health insurance coverage reached 93.5% of the population. Cultural and sports activities took place vigorously, and people's spiritual lives have been increasingly improved. Poverty reduction has achieved positive results, with the poverty rate falling to 0.13%. In particular, implementing the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the city has so far completed support for 137 houses, ensuring the right beneficiaries and on schedule, with a total budget of more than 7.9 billion VND, including a large contribution from socialization. This is a political task of profound humanitarian significance, demonstrating the spirit of "leaving no one behind", contributing to improving the quality of life, ensuring social security and building an increasingly spacious and sustainable urban and rural appearance.
The city has done well in local defense work, conducted defense zone drills, and recruited and called up citizens for military service, achieving 100% of the target. The movement “All people protect national security” has been promoted, contributing to maintaining security, order, and social safety.
The work of building the Party and the political system is given special attention. The apparatus is streamlined, effective and efficient; the quality of cadres is increasingly improved. The City Party Committee has implemented many models of organizational innovation, such as merging the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, merging Party cells of the Front and mass organizations, and converting high school Party cells into subordinate grassroots Party cells.
The Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations of the city constantly innovate the content and methods of operation, focusing on the grassroots, taking care of the legitimate rights and interests of union members, association members and the people. Many patriotic emulation movements and large-scale campaigns have been effectively implemented. The Front and organizations are a solid bridge between the Party, the government and the people, contributing to consolidating the great national unity bloc, maintaining political stability and sustainable socio-economic development.

At the same time, the city actively deploys digital transformation models in education, health care, and agriculture, contributing to improving the quality of life, improving the investment environment and promoting sustainable socio-economic development.
