US President Donald Trump said on February 18 that he had ordered the firing of all prosecutors appointed by former President Joe Biden.
“We must clean house immediately and restore confidence. The Golden Age of America requires a fair and just justice system. That starts today,” Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social on February 18.
President Trump said the US Justice Department has been “more politicized than ever” over the past four years. The department has not yet commented on Mr. Trump’s statement.

Last week, the White House sent notices of dismissal to several prosecutors appointed by former President Joe Biden. Some prosecutors announced their resignations on February 17, while others left the government last week, according to Reuters.
According to attorneys who have worked or are working at the Justice Department, it is common practice for prosecutors from previous administrations to resign when a new president is elected. New administrations often ask for resignations, but rarely send notices of termination.

US prosecutors serve four-year terms, are appointed by the president and must be confirmed by the Senate. The president also has the power to remove prosecutors.
The decision to fire the prosecutors is the latest move by President Trump to overhaul the Justice Department, which has seen dozens of officials fired since he took office. During his campaign, Trump pledged to end the “weaponization” of the Justice Department, which he said had targeted him with legal troubles over the past four years.
