National economic census from January 5, 2026

The Ministry of Finance issued Decision No. 2837/QD-BTC on organizing the 2026 Economic Census nationwide.

The purpose of the 2026 Economic Census nationwide is to collect information on production and business units to serve the assessment of the current situation and trends of the country's socio-economic development; as a basis for assessing the situation, developing plans and policies for socio-economic development of the Party and State.

Preliminary results of the census are expected to be announced in January 2027 and official results in the third quarter of 2027.

The census focuses on collecting the following 5 main groups of information: identification information, production and business sectors, economic types; labor, assets, capital sources of the surveyed unit; products, revenue, production and business costs; level of application of modern technology, scientific research and innovation; application of information technology in production and business; digital economy, e-commerce; in-depth specialized information.

Information collection period in 2 phases: Phase 1 (from January 5, 2026 to March 31, 2026) collects information from survey units which are individual non-agricultural, forestry and fishery production and business establishments; cooperatives; religious and belief establishments.

Phase 2 (from April 1, 2026 to August 31, 2026) collects information on enterprises; non-public service units; associations; production and business establishments under administrative agencies, public service units; branches and representative offices of foreign enterprises and non- governmental organizations licensed to operate in Vietnam.
