According to statistics from the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations , from July 20 to 26, there were about 150 telegrams, letters, and messages of condolence sent to Vietnam through the people's relations channel. "A loyal communist soldier", "A truly complete party member", "An excellent theorist", "A simple leader close to the people"... are the words of praise that international friends have given to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The image of the General Secretary has been recreated through these messages in a very vivid, authentic, and close way.

Loyal and honest communist

The President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries wrote: "General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a loyal Marxist, a great leader of the Communist Party and the Vietnamese people; a close comrade and sincere friend of the Communist Party and the Chinese people."

The condolence letter from the World Peace Council (WPC) reads: “Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong stood firmly at the forefront of the revolutionary cause with many high-ranking responsibilities, always devoted to the Party’s decisions, always fighting for the interests of the Vietnamese people both domestically and internationally. During more than 60 years of dedication to the Party until the last days of his life, he became a humble example of a soldier devoted to principles.”

Dr. Carolus Wimmer, President of the Venezuela-Vietnam Friendship House, said that his understanding of the political and socialist process in Vietnam was thanks to the lecture in the work of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong "Some theoretical and practical issues on socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam".

The person who raised the level of Vietnam's foreign relations

The letters and telegrams stated that throughout his life, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was an outstanding diplomat. It was the General Secretary who named and elevated the “bamboo diplomacy” policy, which has existed in the history of Vietnamese diplomacy from the past to the present, to a theoretical level. Building a diplomacy with the strong identity of “Vietnamese bamboo”, under the leadership and direction of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, is a continuation of the Ho Chi Minh era ideology, providing a solid foundation for Vietnamese diplomacy.

The Lao Peace and Solidarity Committee highly appreciated the contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in establishing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam. “With the passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, not only the Party, State and people of Vietnam have lost a respected leader, but our Lao Party, State and people have also lost a close and dear friend.”

The Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association wrote: “In the Russian Federation, everyone knows that Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong is an outstanding activist of the international communist movement, a leader for many years of the Communist Party of Vietnam, a person who continues the revolutionary cause of President Ho Chi Minh, a tested friend of Russia, a person who studied and researched in Russia. We are grateful to Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong for his tireless work to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Vietnam. Members of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association clearly remember the meetings with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong during his visits to Moscow… The trees that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong planted in the Ho Chi Minh Square in Moscow will preserve memories of his visits to our country.”

Professor VN Kolotov, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Institute at Saint Petersburg State University (Russian Federation) assessed: History will record the foreign policy strategy promoting the diplomatic identity of "Vietnam's bamboo tree" and the "furnace burning" campaign of comrade Nguyen Phu Trong that has strengthened the Party's position domestically and internationally.

“Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong's activities have ensured Vietnam's political stability and progress on the path of dynamic economic development, which has enhanced Vietnam's international prestige,” Professor VN Kolotov wrote in his letter of condolence.

The Japan-Vietnam Peace Council (JVPF) highlights the role of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in leading Vietnam in an increasingly globalized and complex world with flexible and resilient foreign policies like bamboo.

Leading a prosperous and developed nation

Many international agencies highly appreciate the role and contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to international cooperation and the development of Vietnam. Many letters and telegrams stated that: Over the past decade, under the leadership of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, with a strategic vision, the Central Executive Committee has issued many Resolutions on socio-economic development with breakthrough solutions, creating momentum for rapid and strong economic development, recognized by the international community.

In the condolence letter from the International Board of Directors, the Global Leadership and staff of ActionAid International stated that the General Secretary's leadership has helped Vietnam achieve many achievements and enhance its mettle and internal strength.

The letter said: “Vietnam has become one of the 35 largest economies in the world, in addition to ensuring that Vietnam's human development index has continuously increased in recent years, showing the correct orientation of the Communist Party of Vietnam in harmonizing sustainable economic development without leaving anyone behind.”

Ms. Men Sam An, President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association, in a letter to the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association, said: “We appreciate the great work and achievements that the General Secretary has brought to Vietnam, and his tireless dedication in making Vietnam an economically developed country with increasingly high prestige in the international arena, especially in promoting good governance and fighting corruption.”

The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Foundation emphasized: “The General Secretary’s leadership has played a pivotal role in shaping the progress and prosperity of your country. The passing of the General Secretary is not only a great loss for the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese people, but also for the leftist movement worldwide because his steadfast commitment to the principles of Socialism and tireless efforts for the development of an increasingly better Vietnam have left an indelible mark.”

Simple, honest, never stop learning

In the eyes of international friends, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has left a shining example of purity, integrity, nobility, simplicity, and total dedication to the cause of the Party and the country's revolution. Many letters and telegrams remind and affirm this.

The Dutch non-governmental organization ActionAid International (AAI) wrote in a letter to the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong "is an example for leaders of global people's organizations because of his simplicity, closeness and exemplary character."

President of the Venezuela-Vietnam Friendship House Carolus Wimmer recalled the memory of his first direct meeting with the General Secretary at the meeting of the Executive Board of the World Peace Council held in Hanoi from November 23 to 25, 2017. “He exuded calmness, intelligence, an analytical eye and great friendliness when welcoming foreign guests,” said Dr. Carolus Wimmer.

Director of the Ho Chi Minh Institute at Saint Petersburg State University, Professor VN Kolotov, said: In meetings with foreign experts and scholars on Vietnam, comrade Nguyen Phu Trong showed sincerity and openness, always ready to discuss without preparation the hottest and most complicated topics.
