The Hanoi bronze drum has a diameter of 59.3cm and a height of 32cm. In the middle of the drum is a 10-pointed star, the star's wings are very thick at the base and then suddenly become sharp towards the tip. Interspersed between the star wings are simple peacock feather-style decorative motifs followed by nested inverted V-shaped motifs.

The Hanoi bronze drum was originally owned by an antiques dealer family living at 34 Le Thai To Street (Hanoi). The drum was studied by the Vietnam History Museum (the predecessor of the Vietnam National History Museum today) before 1975.

The drawing of the Hanoi bronze drum face has been approved by Professor Trinh Sinh, the leading expert in history and archaeology today.
