Iran striker unable to fly to US for 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

According to ESPN, striker Mehdi Taremi is unlikely to be able to join Inter Milan in the opening match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup due to the escalating military conflict between Israel and his homeland Iran.

Military tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate.

As a direct result of the back-and-forth attacks, Iran's airspace has been completely closed for the past two days, preventing Mehdi Taremi from flying to Los Angeles to join his Inter Milan teammates.

Earlier in the week, Taremi returned to play for the Iran national team and scored a goal against North Korea in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in Tehran.

Inter Milan will begin their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign against Mexican rival Monterrey on June 18 at the Rose Bowl Stadium.

Sources from the Italian media said that Taremi will not be able to participate in the opening match and possibly even many of Inter Milan's following matches in this tournament.

The 32-year-old striker is in his second season with Inter Milan after joining the club on a free transfer from Porto last summer.

In his first season, he scored 3 goals and had 7 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions, contributing greatly to helping Inter reach the Champions League final, where they suffered a disastrous 0-5 defeat to PSG.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup kicked off today, June 15, and will last until July 14 in the United States.
