Mr. Doi takes care of his family's goats. |
During his international duty in Cambodia, at the end of 1985, Mr. Doi stepped on a mine and was injured, losing part of his right leg below the knee. He was then given first aid and transferred to the infirmary for treatment. In 1986, he was discharged from the army and returned home to receive his disabled soldier benefits.
After returning to civilian life after being discharged from the army, Mr. Doi's family's economy faced many difficulties. However, with determination and a strong will to overcome fate, in 1988, he got married and had 3 children. To support his family and provide food and clothing for his children, Mr. Doi did all kinds of jobs, from working for hire to fishing on the river, to earn a living...
After that, Mr. Doi learned the techniques of caring for and raising goats and cows. The family's economy gradually improved, and his children were able to go to school and work. With a spirit of eagerness to learn, diligence, and hard work, despite his physical disability, Mr. Doi still worked hard and produced...
Mr. Doi confided: “I myself am a war invalid, I do not want the loss of a leg to be an obstacle for me, but I must always overcome myself, develop the economy, and build a family life. When the Department of Agriculture came to the ward cultural house to organize consultation and guidance on goat, cow, and pig farming techniques, I immediately participated, to gain more knowledge and experience to apply to the family farming model effectively.”
In 2023, thanks to the local budget support and the family's accumulated capital, Mr. Doi renovated his house. With the companionship and economic cooperation of his wife and children, his family's life is increasingly more prosperous and fulfilling than before.
Imbued with Uncle Ho's teaching "Disabled but not useless", with his own determination, Mr. Doi determined to overcome obstacles and self-consciousness about his body to learn and explore new knowledge in animal husbandry and rice cultivation. In daily life, he and his family always set an example in complying with the policies, guidelines, laws of the State and local regulations.
With his gentle and simple personality, Mr. Doi is loved and respected by the people in the neighborhood, who often help him. He always actively participates in the activities and movements of the Veterans Association of the ward and the locality and is considered one of the most active members, not being timid or passive because of his own obstacles.
Speaking about Mr. Doi, comrade Tran Thi Thu Suong, Party Cell Secretary and Head of Go Tre Quarter, Long Thuan Ward, said: “Although he is a war invalid, with the spirit of “disabled but not useless”, Mr. Doi has tried hard to work hard, develop the family economy, overcome difficulties and rise up in life. He also actively participates in local movements. Mr. Doi’s spirit and will are worth praising and is a shining example for everyone to learn and follow in the locality.”
