These three one-off Rolls-Royce creations were inspired by ancient murals in Dunhuang, China. The mural art in the Dunhuang Mogao Caves is one of the most powerful symbols of China’s cultural heritage.

“These mural artworks were created over many dynasties, reflecting the abstract ideals that shaped our country’s civilization,” explains Shuai Feng, Rolls-Royce Bespoke Designer in Shanghai.

Apparently, these “cross-cultural artistic expressions” are commissioned through Rolls-Royce’s “private office” in Shanghai, which is “an invitation-only space where the brand welcomes clients who wish to commission highly complex and deeply personal cars.”

These three unique art cars are the Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII, Black Badge Cullinan Series II and the all-new high-performance electric vehicle Black Badge Spectre.

“Inspired by their colours, shapes and symbols, we have reinterpreted these themes through hand-painted details and carefully selected Bespoke features – a meaningful tribute that reflects Rolls-Royce’s creative dialogue with China in a youthful and contemporary way,” explains the Rolls-Royce designer.

So it’s no surprise that all three models feature a new Bespoke exterior colour exclusively for Private Office Shanghai customers. Each piece is inspired by local landscapes, art and cultural motifs, but shares a common theme – Soul of Silk.

This artwork was created by Feng as a way to combine the Soul of the Flute with Chinese royal silk, and the most detailed renderings are found in the Gallery’s hand-painted artwork on the Phantom VIII. The latter is also finished in a two-tone color – a combination of Ningye Purple, “a color inspired by the deep purple skies above distant sections of the Great Wall of China.

The car's details are named after a poetic description of the colour in a Tang Dynasty poem from 800 AD." The upper body is finished in British White, and the Silken Spirit emblem appears on the C-pillar in Ningye Purple.

Alongside the hand-painted Bespoke Gallery artwork, the interior features black and Cashmere Grey leather upholstery, Piano Black and Cashmere Grey Canadel wood panelling, Silken Spirit inlays on stainless steel and a Bespoke Starlight headliner with 1,344 hand-fitted fibre-optic ‘stars’ and 192 ‘shooting stars’.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II Black Badge is finished in Danqian Pink, which also features on the center of the 23-inch Black Badge alloy wheels. Inside, the front seats are covered in Blushing Pink perforated leather, while the rear seats are covered in Navy leather with Blushing Pink piping and stitching. The Silken Spirit motif also appears on the exterior and interior.

Last but not least, the Black Badge Spectre, Rolls-Royce’s latest model, features a two-tone Aero paint job with Qingshan Blue and Diamond Black contrasting, while the illuminated grille is finished in Turchese. Inside, the dual-tone interior is also applied with Turchese and black leather front upholstery, while the rear seats are black with contrasting white stitching and piping.
