Diogo Jota, 28, and his brother Andre Silva were killed in a car crash in northwestern Spain on the morning of July 3 when their Lamborghini lost control and burst into flames. The accident occurred near the city of Zamora at around 00:30 local time. Spanish authorities said the cause of the accident may have been a flat tire and it was not yet known who was driving.
Jota passed away at the height of his career, having just won the Premier League with Liverpool in the 2024-2025 season, the English League Cup and the FA Cup in the 2021-2022 season. He also won the 2024-2025 Nations League with Portugal after the final victory over Spain. Jota's career was on the rise, having married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, just over 10 days before the accident.
