10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City: No candidate achieved 10 points in Literature

On June 23, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced the results of the 10th grade public exam for the 2025-2026 school year with 524 exams scoring 10 points. Of which, 36 students scored in Math and 488 students scored in Foreign Language.

Analysis of the scores of the newly announced subjects shows that: Foreign Language (mainly English) has 488 scores of 10, the scores are concentrated from 6.75 to 8.25 points, the score that the candidate achieved the most was 7.25 points with 3,143 exams. Of the 3 subjects, Foreign Language recorded many candidates with higher scores.

In Math, 36 candidates achieved a perfect score of 10, with scores ranging from 6.5 to 7.5 points, with the most common score being 7 points with 4,580 candidates.

In Literature , no candidate achieved a perfect score, only 2 candidates achieved 9.5 points, the most common score was 7 points with 5,936 candidates, the second most common score was 6.5 points with 5,718 candidates.

Compared to last year, the results of the Foreign Language exam decreased slightly (the score of 10 was only 1/3 compared to last year); the Math exam was higher than last year; the Literature exam remained stable. The number of exams below average score decreased significantly.

On the same day, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City also announced the benchmark scores for specialized and integrated 10th grade. Candidates who are admitted to these wishes will enroll from June 23-25. Candidates who are not admitted will continue to be considered for regular 10th grade as previously registered. The Department plans to announce the benchmark scores for regular 10th grade on June 26.

After completing the grading, many teachers commented that this year's exam score distribution, along with the increased admission rate, the standard score for grade 10 this year may decrease slightly or be the same as last year.

The entrance exam for grade 10 public schools in Ho Chi Minh City took place on June 6-7 with more than 76,000 candidates taking the exam. Candidates took three compulsory subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language; candidates wishing to enter specialized or integrated grade 10 took the corresponding additional subject.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, this year's exam has more than 76,400 candidates registered, while the total enrollment quota of public high schools is 70,070, meaning about 91.7% of candidates have a chance to be admitted. In addition, private schools also provide nearly 19,500 quotas, helping to create more learning opportunities for students. With a large number of open quotas, the entrance exam to grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City this year is considered "easier to breathe" than previous years. However, the competition to get into specialized schools and top schools is still quite stressful.

This year is the first year that the public 10th grade exam is organized according to the 2018 GeneralEducation Program. The goal of the new Program is to assess students' abilities and ability to apply learned knowledge to solve problems and real-life situations, so this year's exam has changed both in structure and requirements towards increasing practicality.

The structure of the exam questions closely follows the sample questions that the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has announced in advance, so candidates are not confused; the content of the exam questions has appropriate differentiation. The Literature exam is assessed to be highly open, with familiar topics. The questions are not too difficult, but require students to have a solid grasp of knowledge, test-taking skills and an understanding of social life.

Many teachers and candidates commented that this year's Math exam was less difficult than last year's. The English exam was not too difficult, not confusing for candidates. The results showed that English is always a strong subject for students in Ho Chi Minh City.
