In the 2025-2026 school year, 115 public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City will enroll 70,070 students while 76,435 students have registered to take the exam. Although the enrollment quota for grade 10 has increased significantly, it is expected that more than 6,000 students will leave the race for a place in public grade 10.

The spectrum is clearly differentiated.

Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Departmentof Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that along with the announcement of the 10th grade exam scores, the department also announced the benchmark scores for specialized 10th grade and integrated 10th grade on the morning of June 23. The benchmark scores for general 10th grade will be announced on June 26.

This year's 10th grade entrance exam is the first 10th grade exam under the 2018 General Education Program with many clear changes in the structure and content of the exam to implement the testing and assessment requirements under the new program. That is, focusing on the requirements for developing qualities and abilities, and skills to solve practical problems from the lives of learners. The levels of differentiation in the exam are clear, ensuring the correct assessment of each candidate's ability.

Based on the content of the 10th grade exam and the grading results over the past few days, according to the examiners, this year's score distribution is positive, with clear differentiation between the scores. There will not be a "rain" of 10s in Math and English, but there will also be very few below-average scores.

In the literature subject, the exam requires candidates to have a solid grasp of knowledge, at the same time, they must read, understand, analyze the question carefully, and identify the discussion issue fully to get to the core of the question. According to the examiners, the score range this year ranges from 6 to 7.5 with some papers achieving a score of 9, while the lowest score is 2.5. Scores of 8 and above in this subject are also very rare; scores of 6 to 7 are the most common.

Meanwhile, in math, according to the teachers who participated in marking the exam, this year's results were more positive than previous years, with a lower percentage of below-average scores and a higher score distribution. With this year's math exam, the examiners said that to get a score of 10, candidates must have good thinking, careful presentation and reasoning. Therefore, this year there will not be too many 10s.

This math test is considered to evaluate the candidates' abilities. Students with average ability can easily get 5.5 - 6.5 points; students with good ability can get 6.75 - 8 points; students with good ability can get 8.3 - 8.8 points; and students with excellent ability can get 9 points or more. The score range is concentrated in the range of 5.5 - 7.5; there are not many 10 points.

For English, the average score range this year is higher than last year but there are not many high scores, the highest score is around 6 - 7. The 10 score is scattered and the lowest is at 1.5 points.

Top school benchmark scores may increase by 0.5 - 1.5

With the score distribution of all three subjects as above, according to teachers' predictions, the standard score for grade 10 this year is expected to increase, especially at top schools.

"For top schools, the expected benchmark scores may increase by 0.5 - 1.5 compared to last year. The reason is that according to the announced enrollment quota and the number of candidates registering for their first choice, many schools in this top group did not increase their quota while the number of candidates registering for their first choice remained high" - commented the principal of a high school in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Meanwhile, the top 2 schools are expected to keep their benchmark scores the same as last year.

In the 2025-2026 school year, it is expected that more than 6,000 candidates will have to leave the race to enter public grade 10. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, there are many ways to go if candidates cannot enter public grade 10. Specifically, in the 2025-2026 school year, non-public schools in the area are expected to enroll 30,289 students in grade 10.

In addition to non-public schools, in the 2025-2026 school year, vocational education and continuing education centers in Ho Chi Minh City plan to enroll 16,764 10th graders. Meanwhile, the 10th grade quota for colleges and intermediate schools under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is more than 10,000.

Adjustment of admission time of Gifted High School

The High School for the Gifted - Ho Chi Minh City National University has just adjusted the time to confirm admission for 10th grade students to this school to create conditions for them if they are simultaneously admitted to specialized schools in Ho Chi Minh City.

Accordingly, if both schools are accepted, candidates must choose and decide on June 23, 24 and 25. If they choose Le Hong Phong High School or Tran Dai Nghia High School, they must follow the instructions of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training. Once they have decided to enroll in the Gifted High School, they must not confirm their enrollment online on the systems of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, and must complete the procedures according to the school's regulations.
