On the afternoon of September 3, the opening ceremony of the 12th General Assembly of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Global Cities (TPO) officially took place at the Sheraton Saigon Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City.
The event brought together leaders of member cities, experts and tourism organizations from many countries, affirming Vietnam's increasingly important position on the world tourism map.
With the theme “Shaping the Future of Tourism: Towards Digital and Green Transformation”, the 2025 TPO General Assembly sets strategic goals, focusing on discussing solutions for technology application and sustainable development. This is not only a trend, but also an urgent requirement for the global tourism industry to adapt to climate change, the need for personalized experiences and the explosion of artificial intelligence.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, emphasized: "Hosting the TPO General Assembly this time is an important milestone, clearly demonstrating the responsibility and commitment of Ho Chi Minh City in promoting regional tourism to develop synchronously, creatively and sustainably." He also expected the event to create a platform for TPO members to build a common message and propose feasible initiatives to enhance connectivity and cooperation.
“The theme of the 12th General Assembly reflects the challenges and opportunities of our time. Tourism will become a powerful driver for prosperity and development of our member cities,” said TPO Secretary General Kang Da-eun. She affirmed that TPO is not just an organization, but a family, united by the belief that tourism is a force for good.

Ho Chi Minh City, as one of the founding cities and a member of the TPO Executive Board, has been actively promoting digital transformation and green transformation as a key strategy for sustainable tourism development. The city identifies this as an inevitable choice to enhance competitiveness, attract high-quality visitors, adapt to the crisis and deeply integrate into global trends.
Within the framework of the event, thematic workshops, high-level forums and bilateral conferences will focus on discussing the application of AI, big data, VR/AR in tourism, as well as solutions to reduce emissions, preserve heritage and promote social responsibility.

The 12th TPO General Assembly is not only an opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City to introduce its image as a dynamic destination, but also contributes to attracting international tourists, especially from the Northeast Asian and Southeast Asian markets.
With a vision towards the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations, this event affirms TPO's strong commitment to creating a responsible, people-centered tourism industry and moving towards a sustainable development future./.
