Thanh Hoa prepares plan to evacuate nearly 28,700 coastal residents to safety

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - By the afternoon of August 24, communes and wards in Thanh Hoa province had prepared plans to evacuate people living in dangerous areas at risk of being unsafe when natural disasters occur.

Households are ready to evacuate when storms and floods occur.

Of which, localities are ready to evacuate 6,254 households/28,698 people (104 areas/20 communes and wards) living in areas 200m from the coast; 1,722 households/7,351 people (233 areas/59 communes) in areas at risk of flash floods; 6,275 households/26,551 people (529 areas/82 communes) in areas at risk of landslides in mountainous communes.

Based on the development of floods and the actual situation, localities are ready to prepare plans to continue evacuating people in case of heavy rain due to the impact of storm circulation lasting for a long time. At the same time, prepare enough necessary necessities at the evacuation site with the motto of not letting anyone go hungry, cold, or homeless...

It is forecasted that due to the impact of storm No. 5, Thanh Hoa province will have moderate, heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms from the night of August 24 to August 27. Total rainfall in the mountainous areas of the North and Northwest is generally from 100 - 200mm, in some places over 250mm; in the coastal plains and mountainous areas of the West and Southwest from 200 - 350mm, in some places over 400mm. There is a very high risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying areas, riverbanks, and urban areas.
