Strengthening the participation of social organizations in legal aid work

(Chinhphu.vn) - On September 5, the Department of Legal Dissemination, Education and Legal Aid (Ministry of Justice) organized a seminar on "Participation of social organizations in legal aid work".

The seminar was held to celebrate the anniversary of the Legal Aid Organization (September 6, 1997 - September 6, 2025).

Speaking at the opening of the Seminar, Mr. Le Ve Quoc, Director of the Department of Dissemination, Legal Education and Legal Aid, stated that in the current context and requirements of innovation, the Law on Legal Aid needs to be studied, amended and supplemented to meet the development of legal aid in a modern direction, increasingly better meeting the legal aid needs of the people.

The project to build a Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the 2017 Law on Legal Aid is being proposed to be included in the 2026 Legislative Program. Mr. Le Ve Quoc hopes that the Seminar will be an opportunity for experts to focus on and thoroughly study the directions that need to be amended and the relevant contents that need to be continued.

At the same time, clarify the position of legal aid workers in the context of building public lawyers; propose mechanisms to strengthen coordination between the Department of Legal Dissemination, Education and Legal Aid, Departments of Justice, Legal Aid Centers of localities with associations and unions so that legal aid work for vulnerable groups in society is effective and substantive, meeting current practical requirements.

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Pham Van Thanh, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of People with Disabilities, said that in recent times, the Association has focused on implementing legal aid work and has achieved many important results.

Accordingly, the Union of Associations has just established the Institute of Science and Legal Support with the function of gathering scientists, experienced experts and professional teams to research and implement scientific and technological services in various fields of life, contributing to protecting the rights and legitimate interests of the disadvantaged and disabled, while supporting the disadvantaged and disabled to live confidently, equally and fully integrated into society.

However, Mr. Pham Van Thanh said that in the process of implementing legal aid work, there are still some difficulties in terms of resources. Therefore, it is recommended to increase resources and create favorable mechanisms to implement legal aid work.

Experts also proposed and recommended strengthening initial legal aid work; studying and clarifying the financial mechanism in legal aid activities; promoting communication work on legal aid, correctly assessing the position and role of legal aid work in building a rule-of-law state; continuing to build and perfect the legal system on legal aid; expanding the subjects in legal aid work...
