On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and Vietnam's National Day, UN Deputy Secretary-General Atul Khare sent warm congratulations to the Vietnamese people and highly appreciated the achievements that Vietnam has made over the past 80 years of development.

In an interview with a VNA reporter in New York, Deputy Secretary-General Atul Khare said that the United Nations and Vietnam have similarities in their historical journey.

80 years ago, the United Nations was founded with the mission of preventing future generations from facing a third world war, and bringing peace , freedom and a better life for all. That was also the spirit of the Declaration of Independence read by President Ho Chi Minh on September 2, 1945, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Mr. Atul Khare expressed his pride in the achievements that Vietnam has made over the past 80 years, when it has risen from a country in need of aid to an increasingly developed country with many practical contributions to the completion of sustainable development goals, participating in missions to maintain international peace and security in many regions of the world .

Since 2014, Vietnam has been participating in many United Nations peacekeeping operations in Africa, including the deployment of 6 police officers, engineering teams and level 2 hospitals...

The UN leader also expressed his impression of Vietnam's achievements in its efforts to complete the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), thereby contributing to improving people's lives and leaving no one behind.

Vietnam has been particularly successful in poverty reduction, education , women’s empowerment and clean water. These valuable experiences of Vietnam are being shared and are useful to many other countries in the world.

Meanwhile, on September 5, the National University of La Plata in Argentina held a conference on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and Vietnam’s National Day on September 2 to learn about the historical significance and achievements of 40 years of Doi Moi. The conference was attended by professors and students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FaHCE).

At the workshop, expert Gaston Fiorda - who has many years of research on Vietnamese history - emphasized that throughout the past 8 decades, the Vietnamese people have always affirmed the sacred and inviolable value of freedom and national happiness. This demonstrates Vietnam's maturity, solidarity and mettle in the journey of asserting sovereignty, building a strong and prosperous country, integrating internationally and actively contributing to world peace, based on the spirit of the 1945 Declaration of Independence.

Mr. Fiorda - an Argentine journalist who won the First Prize of the 6th National Award for Foreign Information - expressed his admiration for the heroic and indomitable fighting spirit of the Vietnamese people against foreign invaders throughout history, as well as the extraordinary efforts under the leadership of the Communist Party in the reconstruction of the country after the war, especially the achievements of the Doi Moi process.

In less than 40 years, Vietnam has transformed itself from one of the poorest countries into a dynamic economy, belonging to the group of middle-income countries.

As a Southeast Asian affairs expert at the National Radio of Argentina (RNA), Mr. Fiorda expressed his impression of Vietnam's strong and drastic revolution in streamlining and streamlining its organization and apparatus in recent times.

He said that Vietnam is preparing to hold the 14th Party Congress, which is an important turning point in its development path, with decisions being made on the most important issues related to the country's development strategy and guidelines to achieve the goal of becoming a high-income developed country by 2045.

Also at the conference, expert Ezequiel Ramoneda - President of the Latin American Association for Asian and African Studies (ALADAA) - mentioned the more than 50-year history of relations between Argentina and Vietnam, emphasizing the support of the Argentine people for the Vietnamese people's struggle against the US to save the country.

According to Mr. Ramoneda, coordinator of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CESEA) at the Institute of International Relations of the National University of La Plata, in the current period, the cooperative relationship between the two countries is increasingly developing, especially economic and trade relations.

Vietnam is Argentina's 6th largest trading partner and Argentina considers Vietnam a leading important partner in Asia with efforts to expand cooperation in agriculture and processing.

Argentine professors and students attending the conference also expressed their interest and asked many questions about the development process, role and position of Vietnam in Asia as well as in the world, in addition to future strategic orientations.

On this occasion, a VNA reporter in China had an interview with Professor Liu Anh from the Chongyang Institute of Financial Studies, Renmin University of China, about the achievements, leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Vietnam's development prospects in the coming time.

Professor Luu Anh said that since gaining independence in 1945, Vietnam has gone through many stages of development, from post-war recovery to economic reform and international integration. In particular, since implementing the Doi Moi policy in 1986, Vietnam's economy has made great strides, gradually transforming from a predominantly agricultural economy to a dynamic market economy, with rapidly developing industry and services.

In 2024, Vietnam's GDP will reach 476.3 billion USD, a sharp increase from 4.5 billion USD in 1986; GDP per capita will also increase from less than 100 USD in 1986 to about 4,700 USD.

Vietnam has participated in many important organizations and trade agreements such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), etc., thereby consolidating its position in the global economy.

Assessing the role of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Professor Luu Anh emphasized that the Communist Party of Vietnam is the decisive factor in all victories of the revolution as well as in the country's development.

The Party has initiated and persisted in the renovation policy, creating momentum for market reform, opening up to attract investment, promoting industrialization and modernization.

In the first quarter of 2025 alone, newly registered FDI capital in Vietnam reached 10.98 billion USD, an increase of 34.7% over the same period last year.

Along with that, many institutional and administrative reforms, development of innovation centers and high-tech zones are being implemented, paving the way for the development of high-tech industries such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI), while bringing practical benefits to the people.

Regarding future prospects, Professor Luu Anh commented that Vietnam has many advantages, notably a young population and an increasingly expanding consumer market. Despite the impact of the international situation, Vietnam's GDP in the second quarter still increased by 7.96% over the same period, the highest level in nearly 20 years. Total export turnover in the first 7 months of the year reached 262.4 billion USD, affirming Vietnam's role in the global supply chain.

However, Professor Luu Anh warned that Vietnam will face inflationary pressures, rising labor costs and continued infrastructure improvements. To maintain sustainable growth, Vietnam should focus on developing industry at a higher level, while increasing manufacturing value and investing heavily in infrastructure.
