Strengthening cooperation between Vietnamese and Korean SMEs through practical and effective activities

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the evening of August 22, in Hanoi, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung received a delegation from the Korea Small and Medium Enterprises Association (KBIZ) led by Mr. Kim Ki Mun, Chairman of the Association.

Also attending the reception were representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Government Office ; Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (VINASME).

On September 22, 2023, VINASME and KBIZ signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen links and support SMEs of the two countries to seek economic cooperation opportunities in Vietnam and Korea.

Based on the Memorandum of Understanding, on November 21, 2024, VINASME and KBIZ jointly organized the Vietnam-Korea Investment Cooperation Forum at the National Innovation Center, with the participation of 700 enterprises (about 150 delegates from Korea and 550 delegates from Vietnam).

Appreciating the role of KBIZ in promoting economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Korea, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung suggested that KBIZ negotiate and exchange with Korean corporations and SMEs to strengthen connections with the network of Vietnamese suppliers, supporting Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in the supply chain of Korean enterprises.

At the same time, promote business and investment opportunities in Vietnam to encourage Korean enterprises that are members of KBIZ to make new investments and expand their investment scale in Vietnam, prioritizing the fields of building high-tech industrial parks, digital industry (AI, semiconductors, etc.), infrastructure development, renewable energy, smart cities, cultural industry, entertainment industry, etc.

The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested that KBIZ coordinate with Vietnamese partners in sharing experiences, supporting the development of the science and technology ecosystem, innovation and digital transformation, and connecting innovative business networks in the two countries. At the same time, KBIZ members are encouraged to participate in research projects, human resource training and technology transfer in strategic areas, contributing to promoting scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries in a practical and effective manner.

In addition, KBIZ is encouraged to implement programs to support training and fostering high-quality human resources in the fields of science, technology, and innovation in Vietnam, and to support scholarships for Vietnam in the fields of semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) and liquefied natural gas (LNG)...; and to share experiences on policies to support SMEs and the private economic sector.

"KBIZ should further strengthen its presence and operations in Vietnam, concretizing the Memorandum of Understanding with practical programs, plans and actions that bring benefits to both sides," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

Expressing his gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Kim Ki Mun said that he had fully understood the Deputy Prime Minister's instructions and that KBIZ would make further efforts to fulfill its role as a "connector" between SMEs of the two countries.

In addition, KBIZ is willing to explore opportunities and introduce Korean enterprises to expand their investment and business in Vietnam; coordinate with relevant agencies of Vietnam to organize short-term training courses and in-depth seminars on technology transfer, management, operation of support funds and investment for creative startups and venture capital; share the process and criteria for selecting investment enterprises; connect Korean investment funds and angel investors with Vietnam's creative startup ecosystem./.
