As a doctor directly treating patients at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, I clearly feel my dual meaning: being both a practitioner and a contributor to giving hope through drops of red blood. Blood - for us, is not only a special medicine but also an irreplaceable source of life, especially necessary for pediatric patients and pregnant women in emergencies, surgeries or treatment of blood diseases.

The blood donation movement at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has always received special attention and positive response from the leaders and all medical staff. We regularly organize internal blood donation campaigns and actively coordinate with the Regional Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center to call on the community, patients' families and organizations to join hands. In particular, the Hospital's Live Blood Bank Club is always ready to provide blood for emergency cases.
During my medical career, I have witnessed many touching stories. I will always remember the case of a pregnant woman who suffered from postpartum hemorrhage on New Year's Eve 2017. The special difficulty was that the pregnant woman had the rare AB blood type, and the blood reserve of the Hematology - Blood Transfusion Center was exhausted. Under the urgent direction of the hospital's leadership, the Live Blood Bank Club was activated. Immediately, 7 medical staff arrived in time (including 2 people who were at home to help) and we had enough blood to treat the patient.

The moment I saw the patient’s family burst into tears of joy, I knew that I had truly contributed to a miracle. That experience reinforced my belief in the meaning of blood donation: Each drop of blood is not only an act of kindness but also an opportunity to continue writing stories about life, love and hope. It showed me that life is always fragile but also extremely strong when there is sharing and kindness from the community.
"What I do is so small"

I donated blood for the first time when I was a student, after participating in supporting a blood donation program. After that time, I deeply felt the importance of blood, so I decided to maintain this activity until now.

During the process of donating blood and being a member of Thanh Vinh Live Blood Bank, I have witnessed many touching stories and also had many memorable experiences. Once, when receiving information about an emergency case requiring rare blood, the members in Nghe An divided themselves to pick up and drop off the blood donor 40-50km from Vinh City in the blazing sun. Even though it was midnight, rain, wind, cold, the patient needed blood, everyone was there immediately... Everyone had the spirit of serving, giving, selflessly and unconditionally. Many times after donating blood, seeing that the patient was in such difficult circumstances, we also gave more money to support, absolutely never accepting thank you gifts.

At the ceremony to honor "National Outstanding Voluntary Blood Donors in 2025", I met people who had donated blood hundreds of times. There were even elderly uncles and aunts who proposed to increase the age limit for blood donation so that they would have more opportunities to give. Meeting such people, I felt that what I did was still very small, and I will continue my journey to give life to the world.

Our Blood Donation Promotion and Mobilization Club operates on two main contents: calling for and supporting blood donations at the school and seeking support when someone needs blood urgently. Whenever there is a blood donation, we take turns writing communication posts, and sometimes we are busy writing forms, distributing gift bags, and supporting doctors so that they only need to focus on drawing blood and signing applications. When we have information about someone in urgent need of blood, we write articles to share and send messages to the Vinh University Live Blood Bank group to call for help. During peak weeks, we are present at the blood donation site all day. In addition, we also teach free lessons to pediatric patients at the Nghe An Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center.

Since joining the club, witnessing the enthusiasm, love and willingness to share of the seniors and members of the club, I have changed and matured a lot. For us, donating blood is not only a humanitarian act, but also an indispensable part of student youth, a vivid expression of compassion and responsibility to the community. Each drop of blood donated not only contributes to saving a person's life, but also spreads the message of love and sharing in society. It helps us feel the happiness of making a small contribution to maintaining life. Blood is an extremely precious product that cannot be produced artificially but can only come from kind hearts. Donating blood is a noble act, demonstrating the spirit of kindness and responsibility to the community, contributing directly to the work of saving and sustaining the lives of millions of patients.

The voluntary blood donation movement in Nghe An has achieved many positive results, gradually spreading widely, becoming a cultural beauty, demonstrating the humanitarian spirit and mutual love of the people. This is most clearly demonstrated when Nghe An is currently ranked 5th in the country in blood reception.
However, besides the favorable human factor, there are still many difficulties. The biggest difficulty at present is in propaganda and mobilization work. A part of the people still do not really understand the importance of voluntary blood donation. Another big challenge is the shortage of blood on special occasions such as summer and Tet, when people are busy and students - the main blood donors of the clubs, are on vacation. At present, the situation is becoming more serious when the blood reserve at the Nghe An Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center is at an alarming level. The main reason comes from the fact that we are in the process of perfecting and rearranging the organization and personnel when implementing the 2-level local government model, leading to many units not effectively implementing blood donation mobilization activities as usual.

Currently, Nghe An Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center is supplying blood to 43 medical facilities in Nghe An and part of Ha Tinh province. In the future, when Vinh city is oriented to become a high-quality medical center of the North Central region according to Resolution 39-NQ/TW dated July 18, 2023 of the Politburo , hospitals will perform more and more high-tech organ transplants, leading to an even higher demand for blood and blood products in the future. Currently, the Center can only meet about 70-80% of the demand for blood and blood products for patients.
I think that those who have been involved in the Hematology industry for a long time are all very dedicated people, ready to help the community. To ensure a continuous blood supply, Nghe An Hematology - Blood Transfusion Center always has people on duty to donate blood 24/7 at the Center and at the blood donation point at Vinh University. They often have to go from 3am today, receive blood and work all night until 3am the next morning to ensure blood quality, without days off, Saturdays, Sundays, and even these days they have to work harder. That hard work, if not for the responsibility to the community and the heart of the profession, would not be possible to pursue.
