Suzuki Australia has asked dealers to cancel all Jimny XL orders and refund deposits after being notified of a temporary suspension of sales due to an “unknown issue”. The company insists the issue is not safety-related, so current owners do not need to stop using their vehicles.

The five-door version of the popular off-roader Jimny XL is currently undergoing inspections in India, where the model is manufactured. Suzuki Australia said it had not received any details from the group, but only knew the problem did not affect operational safety.
“Given the uncertainty around the timeframe for a fix, we are advising dealers to cancel orders and refund deposits. This is the most transparent and customer-friendly solution at this time,” Suzuki Australia Managing Director Michael Pachota told Drive.com.au.

Suzuki is allowing customers to remain on the waiting list if they still want to own a Jimny XL once the issue is resolved. The company is also asking dealers to provide information so that interested customers can be directly updated on the progress of the fix. Suzuki Japan has not yet announced a specific processing time.
In the Australian market, the Jimny XL is the only option after Suzuki was forced to stop selling the three-door version in March this year due to the lack of an automatic emergency braking system - a feature required by law.

The 3-door Jimny is expected to return in early 2026 after being upgraded with this safety feature. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, Suzuki is currently only distributing the 3-door Jimny with a selling price of about 789 million VND.
