In Hiep Luc village, Na Ri commune, there are currently 7 sinkholes of unknown cause. |
For more than 2 months now, Mr. Trieu Van Minh's house has been closed due to an emergency evacuation when sinkholes threatened his safety. When we stopped by to check on the house, seeing that a reporter had come to investigate, Mr. Trieu Tien Ngan, Mr. Minh's father, took us to see the cracks around the house.
Pointing to the long crack that separates the house and outbuildings in two, Mr. Ngan said: With a crack this big, how could my family dare to live here?
During the day, Mr. Trieu Tien Ngan still returned to the old house to check. |
Across the street, Chau Anh karaoke bar's business has come to a standstill. In front of the bar, there are two sinkholes in the middle of the median strip of Highway 3B that have been covered with corrugated iron. The bar's yard is also cracked, so customers don't come to sing. Even the bar owner only comes to watch and clean during the day, and at night he evacuates to sleep elsewhere.
“Not knowing when or where it will collapse, we are always scared, especially at night. There are days when we feel insecure, my wife and I have to take turns staying up to keep watching,” Mr. Dam Van Yeu, Hiep Luc village, worriedly said.
Not only affecting daily life, sinkholes also make agricultural production difficult for some households. Mr. Dam Van Viet's family's field has 2 adjacent sinkholes, significantly reducing spring rice yield.
Local authorities advise people to limit travel, graze livestock and use water sparingly to minimize the impact on the subsidence area.
Since March 24, 7 sinkholes have appeared in Hiep Luc village, Na Ri commune. This phenomenon directly threatens the safety of people's lives and property in the area (around the sinkhole area, there are 21 household, 92 people and about 12 hectares of agricultural land). 7 households have been evacuated to a safe place.

Mr. Ly Van Kien, Head of Hiep Luc Village, said: Since the sinkholes appeared, the lives of the people have turned upside down and extremely difficult. Among the household that had to be urgently evacuated, there were 2 household that had to temporarily stay in the village cultural house, with water available sometimes and not available sometimes. Children could not participate in summer activities because the road was blocked and impassable. As long as the sinkholes still exist, especially the "death" hole in the middle of National Highway 3B, the people will be insecure. Therefore, the people in the village hope that the authorities will soon fix the sinkholes on National Highway 3B to restore traffic, and at the same time have a comprehensive and timely solution to handle the subsidence phenomenon in the village.
Before merging provincial and commune administrative units and not organizing at the district level, the Na Ri District People's Committee and relevant agencies handed over records, documents, and responsibilities to the local authorities to continue coordination and ensure safety in the subsidence area.
Mr. Nong Van Nguyen, Secretary of the Party Committee of Na Ri commune, said: After stabilizing the organizational structure, the commune will proactively coordinate with relevant levels and sectors of the province to soon find a comprehensive, long-term solution to the subsidence situation in Hiep Luc village.
