TPO - This year, the number of candidates applying for admission to Hanoi University of Science and Technology using SAT and foreign language certificates doubled compared to last year.

On the morning of June 22, Hanoi University of Science and Technology organized a program to welcome Idols and recruit talents.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that the talent selection method has 3 groups of candidates. Subject 1.1, direct selection according to the selection regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , the number remains stable as last year with 250 candidates. On June 30, Hanoi University of Science and Technology announced the list of candidates admitted under this method.

However, Associate Professor Nguyen Phong Dien admitted that this is a group of excellent, high-quality candidates (candidates who won national prizes from third prize and above, international prizes), so the virtual rate is quite high because they have many choices.

Subject 1.2 is candidates with international competency assessment certificates (SAT, ACT, A-level). Mr. Dien said that this year the number of candidates registering for this method has doubled. Last year there were about 1,000 students, this year there are over 2,000. According to the initial assessment of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, parents who can afford to send their children to international schools and private schools with international links are increasing. Some high schools in big cities have a movement to review and take the SAT certificate exam. In addition, there is a reason due to changes in visa policies for international students by the US government .

Subject 1.3 will have their application reviewed and interviewed. This year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has narrowed down this group. The school will prioritize applications from students from specialized high schools nationwide. Candidates who do not study at specialized schools must have won provincial-level excellent student awards (from third prize and above) and candidates who have won consolation prizes in national excellent student competitions. This group has 3,000 applications.

Mr. Dien affirmed that due to the narrowing of the target group, the number of applications decreased by about 1,000 compared to last year. Another difference in this method is that this year's interview round does not give points, only pass/fail. Candidates who pass the interview round are eligible for the school to include them in the virtual filtering list on the Ministry's general admission system by the talent selection method. Candidates who fail to pass can participate in the admission by considering high school graduation exam scores.

Mr. Dien added that recently, Hanoi University of Science and Technology opened an admission portal for candidates with foreign language certificates to register for score conversion. This year, the number of candidates registering to convert foreign language certificates doubled last year with 8,000 candidates. "It can be seen that students born in 2007 and later have better foreign language skills. This will affect the school's English input supplementary policy for students," Mr. Dien said.

It is known that today, candidates in groups 1.1 and 1.2 participating in the Idol talent recruitment program have the opportunity to exchange and learn information directly at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The exchange and learning session is conducted entirely in English. Group 1.3 participates in interviews. Of which, 1,000 candidates are interviewed directly at the school, 2,000 candidates are interviewed online. In previous years, talent recruitment was the early recruitment method of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, accounting for about 20% of the enrollment target.

This year, the Ministry of Education and Training has stopped early admission, only candidates in group 1.1 will be notified of their admission on June 30. The remaining two groups will register their wishes on the general admission system and when the Ministry of Education and Training finishes the virtual screening, they will know their chances of admission along with candidates who are admitted based on their high school graduation exam scores.
