How does too much sex affect women's health?

VnExpressVnExpress27/06/2023

Too much sex causes pain, inflammation, vaginal dryness and increases the risk of urinary tract infections.

According to research published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior , the average adult has sex 54 times a year, which is about once a week. Some people may have more. However, sex can be harmful to women's health when done too much.

Vaginal dryness: When having too much sex, a woman's natural lubricant decreases, causing pain, dryness, and discomfort during penetration and sexual intercourse.

Inflammation: The vulva and labia are tense and swollen after intercourse, and excessive sex will cause pain. Therefore, women should negotiate with their partners to reduce the frequency until they feel better. They can apply ice to reduce pain and use lubricants to prolong intercourse.

Pain during sex: Having sex more often than usual can cause persistent genital pain. If the pain does not subside, women should seek medical attention early.

Burning sensation: Many women feel aching, burning or dull pain during intercourse, causing discomfort. This is a sign that people need to stop or rest after a lot of sex.

Urinary tract infection: Constant friction in the genitals pushes bacteria toward the urethra, allowing bacteria to enter the urinary tract, causing infection. Additionally, body fluids cause the vagina to lose its natural pH, making it easier for bacteria to invade.

Mental health effects: Some people may be overwhelmed by their partner's sexual needs and not want to cooperate, leading to discomfort and stress for both sides.

Women should talk regularly with their partners to agree on an appropriate frequency of sex. People should avoid using sex as a way to resolve disagreements or trying to have sex just to please their partners.

When having sex, people should use water-based lubricants to reduce friction, keep dry and prolong the time. If you feel pain, adjust your movements to feel more comfortable.

Women should practice exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, thereby controlling sexual positions and supporting the bladder. Exercises also help improve blood flow, making it easier to achieve orgasm. If you have other problems during intercourse or have had intercourse with high frequency, people should rest.
