Tan Hung commune has 7,684 hectares of aquaculture, of which the crab farming area is 4,303 hectares.

Of the total 7,684 hectares of aquaculture in the commune, the area for mixed crab farming has accounted for more than 4,300 hectares. This is a great advantage for local farmers to promote creativity and diversify farming methods, in order to improve productivity and quality of commercial crabs .

Mr. Ngo Hong Men, Cai Gieng hamlet, chooses soft-shell crabs and weak-roe crabs to release into the earthen pond for raising, combined with feeding them with catfish heads (to save costs).

In recent years, many households in Tan Hung have continuously experimented and been flexible in crab farming methods. In addition to the traditional model, people have applied new methods: raising crabs in plastic boxes with a circulating water filtration system, environmentally friendly; raising in earthen ponds to take advantage of soft-shell crabs, crabs with weak roe; raising crabs in two stages combined with feeding them with catfish, snails, mussels, etc. Thanks to that, productivity and efficiency have been significantly improved, while diversifying the supply of quality crabs to the market .

In addition to the income from 20 square meters of about 150 million VND/year, Mr. Men renovated 2 earthen ponds (about 400 m2/pond), covered them with nets, caught small crabs outside the pond to raise, harvested once every half month, bringing in an additional income of 10 million VND/month.

Mr. Tran Ru Dol, Bao Vung hamlet, raises crabs in 2 stages in a shrimp pond, combined with feeding them with catfish, mussels... to increase productivity and efficiency.

Based on the actual results, Tan Hung commune authorities encourage farmers to replicate these innovative models, both increasing income and protecting the ecological environment. This is also an important preparation step to join other localities in the province in creating a source of commercial crabs to serve the upcoming 2nd Ca Mau Crab Festival, an event to promote and affirm the position of "Ca Mau crab" in the hearts of diners nationwide.

Nguyen Viet Khai commune leaders visited the model of raising crabs in plastic boxes through a circulating water filtration system, environmentally friendly, of Mr. Do Huy Man's household, Cai Gieng hamlet.
