Quang Ngai: Industry breakthrough, investment attraction flourishes

(Chinhphu.vn) – In the 2020-2025 period, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, Quang Ngai province has made efforts to maintain growth rate, shift economic structure reasonably, creating many bright spots in industry and investment.

According to the report of Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee, in the period of 2020-2025, the average growth rate of gross regional domestic product (GRDP) will reach 7.3%/year. In 2025, the province's GRDP is estimated to reach 92,813 billion VND, the economic scale will reach nearly 189,000 billion VND. This is a fairly good growth rate in the general context, bringing Quang Ngai to rank 23rd out of 34 provinces and cities.

The economic structure continues to shift in the right direction, with the proportion of industry - construction and services accounting for 70.3% of GRDP. The average GRDP per capita in 2025 is estimated at 3,979 USD, equivalent to 54.89 million VND/person. Notably, in the first 6 months of 2025, the GRDP growth rate of Quang Ngai province reached 11.51%, ranking first in the country.

In economic sectors, industry continues to play a pivotal role, contributing greatly to economic growth. The industrial production value in 2025 is estimated at 185,401 billion VND, an increase of more than 10%/year. Key industries such as petrochemical refining, metallurgy, electricity, food processing and pharmaceuticals are increasingly promoting efficiency and competitive advantages. Most notably is the strong development of Dung Quat Economic Zone - the center of petrochemical refining, metallurgy, energy and heavy industry in the Central region.

Dung Quat Economic Zone has truly become the "industrial growth pole" of the province, attracting a series of large corporations to invest, forming a synchronous and widespread industrial ecosystem; a series of strategic projects here have been started and implemented such as: upgrading and expanding Dung Quat Oil Refinery; Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Iron and Steel Complex; Dung Quat I, II, III combined gas turbine power plant cluster; and VSIP II industrial - urban area.

Investment attraction activities have recorded many improvements. In the period 2020-2025, Quang Ngai has granted 188 new domestic investment projects with a total registered capital of over VND 121,000 billion and 23 FDI projects with a total investment capital of about USD 770 million. Total social investment capital reached VND 347,471 billion, creating an important resource for the development of technical infrastructure, industry, urban and rural areas.

The tourism industry has gradually recovered and made a breakthrough after the pandemic, with 4.9 million visitors in 2025, with total revenue estimated at VND 2,640 billion. The province has focused on building tourism clusters such as Ly Son - Sa Huynh - Mang Den, promoting sea and island tourism, ecology, culture and community. This is considered an important foundation to make tourism an important economic sector in the coming period.

Social security is closely concerned. In the past 5 years, Quang Ngai has supported the construction and repair of more than 9,000 temporary and dilapidated houses with a total cost of more than 500 billion VND. The poverty rate has decreased by an average of 2.17% per year, especially in mountainous areas, by 4.64% per year. The rate of people participating in health insurance has reached 95.17%, the rate of rural people using clean water has reached 98.3%.

Regarding infrastructure development, Quang Ngai has implemented many key projects such as the North-South expressway in the East section passing through the province, the Dung Quat - Sa Huynh coastal route, rural roads, clean water supply systems, resettlement areas and essential infrastructure for production. The province has also attracted many renewable energy, solar power and wind power projects with a total registered capacity of more than 1,191 MW.

In the 2025-2030 period, Quang Ngai province has set the goal of rapid and sustainable development based on innovation, science and technology and digital transformation. The locality will continue to attract dynamic industrial projects with high added value, using advanced and environmentally friendly technology; focusing on developing new fields such as renewable energy, bio-industry, high-tech pharmaceuticals, digital economy and green economy.

Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee Bui Thi Quynh Van emphasized that in the 2025-2030 period, Quang Ngai province will make breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation; develop rapidly and sustainably; and strive to become a fairly developed province by 2030.

With a solid foundation from the achievements in the 2020-2025 period, along with the desire for innovation, solidarity, creativity and high determination, Quang Ngai is entering a new stage of comprehensive, sustainable and inclusive development - towards the goal of becoming an important growth pole of the Central region and the whole country.
