On August 25, while fishing in the Truong Sa sea area, fisherman Nguyen Van Lai (56 years old, from Binh Son commune, Quang Ngai province), crew member of fishing boat QNg 90640 TS, suddenly experienced symptoms of fatigue, numbness and weakness in the right side of his body, difficulty speaking, and headache.
At around 11:00 a.m. the same day, Mr. Lai was taken to the Truong Sa Island infirmary (under Brigade 146, Navy Region 4) for emergency treatment in a conscious state, able to communicate but paralyzed on the right side, slurred speech, crooked mouth, and high blood pressure.
Through examination, the doctor determined that the patient had a stroke due to cerebral infarction and needed to be closely monitored to rule out the possibility of cerebral hemorrhage.
Doctors on the island quickly administered IV fluids, treated cerebral edema, controlled blood pressure, performed electrocardiograms, X-rays, and tests, and held an online consultation with Military Hospital 175 to develop a treatment plan.
According to initial assessment, the patient's condition is serious, with a risk of progressive stroke and cerebral edema. The military medical force on Truong Sa island continues to closely monitor perception, vital signs, hemodynamics and is ready to report to higher levels for timely treatment.
