Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem relic and scenic complex

The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) has just made comments on the dossier to nominate the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son, Kiep Bac Monuments and Landscape Complex to the World Heritage List.

On September 14, in Saudi Arabia, the working delegation led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairwoman of Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, together with the leaders of the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and the Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO, worked with Ms. Maria-Laure Lavenir, General Director of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) on the process and content of the nomination dossier for the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son, Kiep Bac Monuments and Landscape Complex to the World Heritage List.

At the meeting, ICOMOS Director General Maria-Laure Lavenir highly appreciated the efforts and determination of Quang Ninh province to submit the nomination dossier for the world heritage site of Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son, Kiep Bac Monuments and Landscape Complex.

Ms. Maria-Laure Lavenir suggested that Vietnam carefully study the Guidelines for the implementation of the World Heritage Convention on chain heritage nomination to complete the dossier to ensure regulations.

The ICOMOS Director General agreed and supported the proposal of the Quang Ninh Provincial Leaders to discuss and work directly with ICOMOS's specialized departments at the headquarters to consult on the dossier, after the draft was sent to the World Heritage Center on September 30, 2023.

After 8 consecutive years (since 2015), Vietnam has just submitted a dossier to nominate a world heritage site for consideration and registration by UNESCO.

If the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiep Bac Monuments and Landscape Complex is listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage, this will be Vietnam's first inter-provincial world heritage since joining the Convention on the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage in 1987.

The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) is the advisory body of the World Heritage Committee, responsible for providing guidance and recommendations on all matters relating to cultural and mixed heritage, including the inscription process and the assessment of the state of conservation of a property once inscribed.

ICOMOS recommendations will serve as the basis for the World Heritage Committee to take decisions regarding cultural and mixed heritage properties.
