At a bookstore in Trung My Tay ward, Ho Chi Minh City, from 9:00 a.m. on July 29, many parents and students came to buy textbooks and school supplies.
Ms. Minh Nguyet (32 years old, Hoc Mon commune) said that she had ordered textbooks at school, but still had to take her two children to the bookstore to buy more necessary school supplies.
"Learning from previous years, this year I took my children shopping early so they could choose the items they liked. Children like to choose cute designs and "hot" cartoon characters. My family spent about 3 million VND to shop for the new school year for my two children," said Ms. Nguyet.
Parents take their children to buy textbooks and school supplies on the morning of July 29.
The bookstore representative said that the amount of money that families spend on New Year's shopping is not fixed. If there are many children, it will cost more. Families with better conditions will shop more comfortably.
These days, a bill of 1-2 million VND is very normal" - said a bookstore representative.
Ms. Nguyen Huynh said that at the end of June, the homeroom teacher sent a link to register to buy textbooks, the price of grade 11 textbooks, Canh Dieu set is 310,000 VND. On August 1, students will come to school to see the class list and receive the textbooks.
Similarly, Ms. Anh Tuyet (Sai Gon ward, Ho Chi Minh City) said that every year it is very difficult to buy textbooks because there are many different sets, even having to go to 4-5 bookstores to buy enough sets for her children.
"Yesterday I went to the Fahasa bookstore system near my house, there were still many books and all the book series. Although you can still order online to save time, the children prefer to choose directly, the bookstore also has many fun activities for children" - Ms. Tuyet shared.

According to many parents, the cost of buying textbooks and reference books only accounts for about 1/3 of the total cost of shopping at the beginning of the school year. In addition to textbooks, students need to buy calculators, notebooks, uniforms, backpacks, document folders, etc.
Previously, in a petition sent before the 9th session of the 15th National Assembly, voters of Hung Yen province reflected: After the provinces are merged, a large number of students at all levels will move their residence and request to transfer to a new school. However, if they do not transfer schools at the beginning of the school year but transfer at different times during the year, they will face difficulties. Because each general education institution will have a different set of textbooks.
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that the textbooks only differ in terms of language, presentation and teaching methods for each content, but must meet the requirements of the program. Therefore, when students use different textbooks, the content of knowledge and requirements will not be affected.
