According to The New York Times , Dr. Hasan Merali, associate professor of pediatrics at McMaster University (Canada), has treated thousands of patients from 1 to 5 years old and found that some habits of toddlers can improve both mental and physical health for adults.

1. Positive self-talk

Young children tend to talk to themselves, a habit called self-talk. According to Dr. Merali, toddlers are not afraid to talk to themselves, and adults should do the same.

Research shows that positive self-talk helps adults solve problems, learn, and become more confident.

2. Take every opportunity to move

Mr. Merali said that 2-year-olds are active for nearly 5 hours a day, and they move happily and instinctively. Adults should follow this habit, even if it is only for 1-2 minutes.

Research shows that short bursts of exercise can add 10 minutes to your life expectancy each day. When you have time, walk around the house or squeeze in some exercise during your workday.

3. Ask questions

Young children aren't afraid to ask questions when they have questions, says Merali. According to a recent study, young children ask an average of 107 questions per hour.

Adults are often reluctant to ask questions because they are worried that others will think they are stupid. In fact, proactively asking questions not only helps us learn new knowledge but also helps build social relationships.

4. Set a regular rest time

According to Dr. Alberto Ramos, a neuroscientist working at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (USA), toddlers often rest at fixed times and intervals.

This helps them become healthier and develop better, especially during naps.

5. Laugh when you can

Children laugh six times more than adults. Studies have shown that laughter reduces stress hormones, improves immune function, relaxes muscles, maintains blood circulation, and improves oxygen supply to the brain and other organs.

So we should actively seek out joy when we can. Data shows that we laugh more when we are with friends, spending time with them or doing things that make us feel happy and comfortable.
