SpaceX's Starship spacecraft exploded in mid-air due to engine failure during launch on the morning of January 17.

Billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX launched the Starship spacecraft for the seventh time from the launch station in Boca Chica, Texas on January 16 (morning of January 17, Vietnam time). A few minutes after launch, the spacecraft separated from the Super Heavy rocket and continued its flight but eventually exploded, according to Reuters.

After 7 minutes, the Super Heavy rocket successfully returned to the launch tower. This was SpaceX's second successful landing in three attempts. The rocket gradually descended and was spectacularly caught by two mechanical arms on the launch tower.

As for the Starship, the company planned to fly the spacecraft to the Indian Ocean but was unsuccessful. SpaceX lost contact with the spacecraft after 8 and a half minutes of flight.

According to Reuters, this Starship spacecraft has many upgrades and is 2 meters taller than the previous version. The spacecraft is set to release the first fake satellite after reaching the appropriate altitude.

SpaceX issued a statement confirming an engine anomaly as Starship flew into space. "At this point, we can confirm that we lost the spacecraft. We always knew excitement was guaranteed today, but success was not," said SpaceX senior manager and launch broadcast host Kate Tice.

Billionaire Elon Musk plans to launch Starlink internet satellites from Starship, then move on to launching satellites and eventually sending humans into space, according to AP. NASA has contracted SpaceX to return astronauts to the moon in the 2020s. Meanwhile, Elon Musk has said his goal is Mars.

Hours earlier, billionaire Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin launched a new rocket called New Glenn. The rocket flew into space and successfully released a test satellite, but the first engine exploded, failing to complete the goal of landing it on a floating landing pad in the Atlantic Ocean.
