Rekindling the tradition of innovation
Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Van Minh, Senior Lecturer at the Regional Political Academy III, said that Quang Nam needs to promote its tradition of innovation. “Quang Nam people have formed a tradition of innovation. As Professor Ngo Duc Thinh commented: Quang Nam has long been a place of exchange, not stagnation or confinement, so people are open, receptive, and learn, not conservative,” Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Van Minh commented.
Because the history of Quang Nam was "born in and through a great national renovation", the people here "are very sensitive to the new. They crave the new like a dry land thirsts for rain... They participate in the new, want to know the new immediately, to open it up, examine it, explore it , and conquer it".
The spirit of innovation of generations of Quang people is shown in many fields: From finding ways to innovate production tools, lifestyle, costumes, village organization, to innovating economic thinking, especially economic thinking about the market with foreign trade activities strongly developing in Hoi An in the 17th-18th centuries, and later the dynamism in production and business according to capitalist methods in Da Nang from the early 20th century onwards.
Quang Nam is proud to be the homeland of many famous reformists in the country such as Pham Phu Thu and Nguyen Thuat in the 19th century, the trio Phan Chau Trinh, Tran Quy Cap, and Huynh Thuc Khang in the early 20th century, and the contributions to the cause of national renewal of revolutionaries such as Vo Chi Cong and Ho Nghinh in the last three decades of this century.
“The spirit of innovation and renewal that has gone through hundreds of years of many generations has become a very proud traditional cultural value of the people of Quang Nam.
The tradition of innovation of the people of Quang Nam has left many profound lessons for arousing and supporting the creative dynamism and sensitivity to new and progressive things among the entire population and the dynamism and creativity among cadres, workers and civil servants of agencies and departments.
Especially in the current context, encouraging, listening to, and accepting new ideas, bold and innovative new ways of doing things; encouraging, motivating, creating motivation, resources, conditions, and an environment to promote dynamism and creativity is even more urgent," said Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Van Minh.
Promote the spirit of daring to think and dare to do
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hong Son, former Director of the Regional Political Academy III, also commented that: “The outstanding feature in the patriotic tradition of Quang Nam since our ancestors “carried swords to open up the country” more than 550 years ago until now is always being at the forefront in shouldering the country”. That is the tradition of being at the forefront in opening up the country (Thoai Ngoc Hau), being at the forefront in the democratic revolution (Phan Chau Trinh), being at the forefront in fighting the French, being at the forefront in fighting against the 1908 tax collection; being at the forefront in fighting against the Americans; being at the forefront of the New Poetry movement…
“Some people think that the origin of Quang people is “innovation”, “searching for new things”, “they are the offspring of change”… To be more precise, they are people who are sensitive to new things, have the courage to do new things and propose new things, or as some researchers say, they have a tradition of “breaking the mold”, “breaking the style”, “breaking the rules”, “breaking the theory” to find new values on the basis of inheriting existing things”, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hong Son said.
During the renovation period, to a certain extent, Quang Nam has more or less pioneered in proposing new things and implementing new things in socio-economic development, which has been approved and supported by the people and known and recognized by the whole country.
“In the current context of mergers, Quang people need to promote a sharp spirit, dare to think and dare to do to successfully bring Da Nang into a new era,” Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hong Son shared.
Dr. Le Van Liem, Senior Lecturer at the Regional Political Academy III, said that one of the core values that make up the identity of the people of Quang Nam is the spirit of loyalty and hospitality.
