The 80th Anniversary of the Cultural Sector's Traditional Day (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025), taking place at the Hanoi Opera House on the morning of August 23, is an opportunity for the entire sector to affirm the special position of culture in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, along with the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country in the new era.
Vietnamese culture has affirmed its pivotal role in social life. Many tangible and intangible heritages have been recognized by UNESCO, from Hue Royal Court Music, the Central Highlands Gong Cultural Space, Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba to nearly 70 thousand intangible heritages inventoried. Vietnamese literature and art have left behind many works that have stood the test of time, reflecting the history of the nation, arousing pride and spiritual strength.
In the period of 2021-2026, the industry has made great strides: Promulgating more than 120 legal documents and comprehensive administrative reforms. UNESCO recognized Ha Long - Cat Ba Bay as a World Natural Heritage; hundreds of national relics and treasures were restored; cultural industry contributed nearly 4.4% of GDP; tourism recovered strongly, being honored as the top destination in Asia for many consecutive years. High-performance sports maintained the top 3 SEA Games, women's football participated in the 2023 World Cup for the first time. Press and media strongly transformed digitally, continuing to play a pioneering role in social orientation. According to Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, by 2031, the industry aims to build a system of cultural values, people, and Vietnamese families across the country; 100% of provinces and cities have three cultural institutions; at least 5 heritages recognized by UNESCO; cultural industry contributes 7% of GDP; Olympic medal-winning sports; tourism welcoming 50 million international visitors, 160 million domestic visitors, total revenue of 130 - 135 billion USD. Looking back to go further, Minister Nguyen Van Hung emphasized that the industry needs to both maintain the rhythm of preserving core values and create a new rhythm to promote creativity, innovate thinking, and affirm its pivotal role in the country's sustainable development.

2. At the ceremony, General Secretary To Lam requested the whole industry to focus on implementing 10 major tasks: 1. Thoroughly grasp the Party's guidelines and viewpoints on culture; put culture on par with economics, politics and society. 2. Build a healthy cultural environment from family, school and society; promote the exemplary role of cadres and party members. 3. Respect and honor the team of intellectuals, artists, athletes, tourism entrepreneurs, grassroots cadres, considering them as key forces. 4. Develop cultural industry and creative economy to become a new pillar of growth. 5. Preserve, embellish and promote cultural heritage, associated with community livelihoods and sustainable development. 6. Create breakthroughs for mass sports and high-performance sports, aiming at continental and world arenas. 7. Restructure and enhance the competitiveness of Vietnam's tourism, becoming a spearhead economic sector. 8. Promote cultural diplomacy, promote the national image, and spread Vietnamese values to the world. 9. Promote comprehensive digital transformation in the industry, from management to product creation and dissemination. 10. Resolutely protect the Party's ideological foundation, fight to defeat the plot of "peaceful evolution" in the cultural and ideological fields; build a "soft shield" with a system of values, beliefs, and social norms; multiply good people and good deeds.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism honored and rewarded 80 typical advanced models in the fields of culture, information, sports, tourism and journalism. Among them were journalist Phan Thanh Phong (Head of the Special Topics Department, Nhan Dan Newspaper) and many outstanding artists, intellectuals and athletes.
