President Joe Biden's son pleaded guilty to tax and gun charges without a parole agreement and could face up to 17 years in prison. A judge is expected to rule in December.

Jean-Pierre added that she had no comment on the pardons the president plans to issue at the end of his term, including pardons for any administration officials or people President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to take legal action against.

"I know in the coming weeks the amnesty will be a big part of the questions we receive. I don't have anything to share right now. We will update as more information becomes available."

According to ABC News, no son of a sitting US president has ever faced criminal trial. President Biden told ABC News in a June interview that he would not pardon his son.

That same month, Hunter Biden was convicted of three felony counts related to buying a gun in 2018 while allegedly addicted to drugs. Separately, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty in September to nine federal tax-related charges in Los Angeles.

Also related to presidential pardons, according to The Hill, Mr. Donald Trump said in late October that he did not rule out the possibility of pardoning Hunter Biden if he won the election.

Mr. Trump also said that he could pardon many of the more than 1,500 people charged in connection with the attack on the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

During his first term as president, Mr. Trump pardoned numerous political allies — including five defendants convicted in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation — as well as celebrities, congressional Republicans and the father of Jared Kushner, his son-in-law.
