Kim Dong Publishing House organizes a discussion about the story of Vietnamese writing

Writing is one of the most outstanding cultural achievements of human civilization. Each country and ethnic group has a different language and writing system.

As a Vietnamese, have we ever wondered how the Vietnamese writing system was created? Why are we currently using the Latin script, which is different from the surrounding “similar-language” countries such as Japan and Korea? We still say we use the National Language script. So what is the National Language script? Who created it? That is the content that the book Journey of the Creation of the National Language script will answer.

"The Journey to Create the National Language" is a semi-fictional comic book that tells the story of the ups and downs in the life of Alexandre de Rhodes, a priest of the Vatican who came to Vietnam in the 17th century and had great merit in printing the first dictionary of the Vietnamese language (Vietnamese - Portuguese - Latin Dictionary) in 1651.

With the theme "The Journey of Creating the National Language - The Story of Vietnamese Writing", the discussion revolved around the journey of creation, development and dissemination of the Latin script of Vietnamese, since the missionary Alexandre de Rhodes first set foot in Vietnam 400 years ago (1624 - 2024) and the value of the scripts recorded in the ups and downs of Vietnamese history.
