Farmers in the technology era

The grape growing model according to VietGAP standards of Mr. Pham Van Quynh, Lam Xuyen village, Yen Lac commune brings in an income of several hundred million VND/year.

Graduated from the University of Transport, having a stable job in Hanoi, but Mr. Pham Van Quynh, Lam Xuyen village, Yen Lac commune, left the city to return to his hometown, determined to get rich in his hometown. Through research and practice in many places, Mr. Quynh realized that many farmers in other provinces got rich from grapevines. In 2019, Mr. Quynh boldly gathered his family's rice fields and started a business with a model of growing black summer grapes. He traveled to the Bac Giang Center for Application of Agricultural and Forestry Science and Technology to buy nearly a hundred grape seedlings for experimental planting. In the first crop, due to traditional techniques, planting and care methods, the yield of the first crop was not as expected, with many pests and diseases, and low yield. Not discouraged, Mr. Quynh continued to research, learn and determined to innovate, in which promoting the application of science and technology played an important role. With the characteristics of grapevines being “allergic” to rainwater, fog and susceptible to disease, when putting them into production, Mr. Quynh invested in a solid trellis system and greenhouse to help reduce the effects of weather and pests so that the grapevines can develop and grow best. The automatic irrigation system helps reduce labor and control humidity, while at the same time, the process of fertilizing the plants becomes simpler because it is mixed with the irrigation water source.

Along with investing in a greenhouse system, Mr. Quynh strictly follows VietGAP standards for growing and caring for grapes. Thanks to that, the grapes are plump, sweet, and have high productivity. Realizing the potential of grapes, Mr. Quynh continues to expand the greenhouse, grow more milk grapes, and open a tour and experience service. Currently, his farm has more than 5,000 grape trees, of which more than 4,000 are being harvested, with an average yield of 16 tons/year, and an average selling price of 150,000 VND/kg of black grapes and 300,000 VND/kg of milk grapes. The average annual revenue is billions of VND.

To find outlets for his products, Mr. Quynh has stepped up promotion on digital platforms, e-commerce platforms and registered OCOP products. Up to now, black grapes and milk grapes from Mr. Quynh's garden are being purchased by clean food stores in Hanoi . Every year, during the grape harvest season (May and October), the vineyard welcomes thousands of visitors and groups of students to visit and experience.

Also a person passionate about agriculture , thanks to her diligence, hard work, eagerness to learn, dynamism and creativity, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Tam Dao commune has succeeded and become rich by raising pigs for meat. In 2009, she started her business with 10 pigs for meat. However, due to lack of experience, mainly manual farming techniques, and unscientific disease prevention work, in the first years, the pigs were often affected by diseases. Ms. Thuy decided to innovate techniques and farming processes towards biosafety, applying science and technology to improve productivity. With all her family's capital plus loans from the bank, Ms. Thuy invested billions of VND to build a closed-loop barn, far from residential areas, completely isolated from the surrounding environment for better disease prevention. The barn is equipped with a cooling system, ventilation fan, feeding trough, drinking water, and automatic barn cleaning... The waste treatment system is invested in a systematic way, part of which is used as fuel for cooking, and part of which is fermented with microorganisms to make fertilizer for plants.

Each pig is numbered and controlled for vaccines and diseases on the software, helping to limit diseases and monitor the growth of the pig herd scientifically. Thanks to that, the pig herd grows well, from 50 sows, increasing to 200 sows and more than 1,000 pigs. It is worth mentioning that, despite the storm of African swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease, her pigs are still healthy.

Thanks to the scientific farming model, each year Ms. Thuy's farm sells more than 4,000 commercial pigs and thousands of breeding pigs to the market. The average income is billions of VND per year. With outstanding achievements in economic development, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy is honored to be one of 63 typical farmers in the country and was awarded the title "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer" in 2020.

Farmers in the technology era

With dynamism and sensitivity, many farmers have become rich thanks to the application of modern science and technology in production.

Along with farmers across the country, many farmers in Phu Tho province are constantly learning, exploring, and boldly converting traditional production methods to concentrated, large-scale production, promoting the application of science and technology; promoting and consuming products on digital platforms, which has opened up many opportunities to approach businesses and large markets inside and outside the province.

In order to promote the development of high-tech agriculture and increase farmers' income, in recent years, the province has spent hundreds of billions of VND to support farmers in terms of plants, seeds, fertilizers, techniques, disease prevention, land rental, etc. In particular, focusing on models of safe vegetable, fruit and commodity production according to VietGAP standards. Up to now, the province has formed hundreds of clean agricultural production models, biosafety, applying science and technology, contributing to improving labor productivity and income for farmers, gradually building a modern agriculture.
