On June 20, according to Cuban state media, a delegation of high-ranking officials from the country successfully concluded a visit to Russia with nearly 30 trade agreements signed.

Cuba and Russia, both under US sanctions, are strongly strengthening economic ties through facilitating trade and investment to neutralize these sanctions.

Following an 11-day visit to Russia by Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and Deputy Foreign Minister Gerardo Penalver, the two countries agreed to cooperate to boost Cuban sugar and rum exports, secure supplies of wheat and crude oil from Russia and modernize some tourist facilities on the Caribbean island.

“We must look for new ways to conduct economic relations outside the sphere of the dollar, which is increasingly giving way to a multipolar world, and where other actors such as China, India and Russia have more clout,” Deputy Minister Penalver told the official CubaDebate online newspaper.

Last week, Russian media reported that Moscow is ready to supply Havana with 1.64 million tons of oil and oil products annually, helping to improve fuel shortages in Cuba.
