Quan Hoa District Health Center staff give a talk on gender at birth to adolescents and young people in school.
Performing the assigned functions and tasks, every year, Quan Hoa District Health Center has advised the district to direct localities and units to integrate population indicators into socio -economic development plans; develop specific plans to implement population and development work; plans to implement projects to improve population quality. At the same time, it has advised the District People's Committee to issue official dispatches to direct communes and towns in implementing population and development work. The District Health Center also develops plans and proposes solutions to improve population quality; strengthens innovation in content and implementation methods to bring about efficiency in the process of implementing programs and projects.
Implementing the Project on Gender Imbalance at Birth in 2025, Quan Hoa District Medical Center organized a talk on gender imbalance at birth for people who are preparing to get married and have given birth according to the law in 7 communes and towns. The content of the talk focused on disseminating the current situation of gender imbalance at birth in Vietnam; the causes leading to gender imbalance at birth; the consequences of gender imbalance at birth... Thereby, contributing to raising awareness for couples preparing to get married and couples who have given birth to only one child about the legal regulations related to gender selection at birth and the consequences caused by gender imbalance at birth.
Ms. Ha Thi Len, Nam Xuan commune, shared: "My husband and I already have 2 daughters. According to many people's thinking, we should have more children to have a son to take on the family's work, but thanks to the propaganda from officials about the issue of family planning, legal regulations related to gender selection at birth and the consequences caused by gender imbalance at birth, my husband and I decided to stop at 2 children to raise them better. We also exchanged knowledge about raising good and healthy children, taking care of parents, grandparents, and the elderly in the family, and exchanging and learning good experiences in developing the family economy."
Doctor Ha Quang Hoi, Head of Nam Xuan Commune Health Station, said: "As a particularly disadvantaged commune, lacking in facilities, with difficult travel conditions, and a population mainly of Thai ethnic people, promoting population communication and health education will be a bridge to help local people protect their own health and that of their families. Therefore, in community communication sessions, medical staff not only promote health care but also answer questions about disease prevention for themselves and their families; pregnant mothers receive regular prenatal check-ups, nutritional advice and health monitoring instructions to minimize risks and avoid unfortunate incidents that may occur."
Along with the change in people's thinking, maintaining and expanding the scope of benefits of projects: Health care for the elderly; controlling the rate of increase in the sex ratio at birth; the program to expand screening, diagnosis, and treatment of some prenatal and neonatal diseases..., has contributed to many changes in population work in the mountainous district of Quan Hoa. In 2024, reproductive health care for women (aged 15 - 49) whose husbands apply modern contraceptive methods will reach 76%; the rate of pregnant women under management will reach over 99.6%; the rate of pregnant women receiving full prenatal check-ups will reach over 81%; 100% of people will have access to medical services in the management area, 100% of work records will be processed entirely online.
Mr. Dinh Van Bot, Director of Quan Hoa District Health Center, said: "The most important solution currently in implementing population policies in ethnic minority and mountainous areas is propaganda and mobilization. The District Health Center will direct commune health stations to strengthen propaganda activities in many forms through social networking sites, small group counseling, direct counseling through campaigns, thematic talks..., with concise and easy-to-understand content to strongly change people's awareness and behavior in implementing population and development policies in mountainous districts. At the same time, well implement models and projects to improve population quality, contributing to completing the socio-economic development targets of the district".
