Ms. Nguyen Thi Suong (73 years old), along with her sisters who inherited the current coffee shop, said that the shop was founded by her father, Mr. Vinh Ngo. At that time, the Ban Co area was still remote and wild, so Mr. Vinh Ngo named the shop Cheo Leo, and people gradually called the shop owner "Cheo Leo".

In the early days, this was one of the famous music cafes in the central area of District 3, a regular haunt of art lovers, especially students of Petrus Ky or Chu Van An schools and of course people from the Do Thanh residence next door.

"Since childhood, my sisters and I have witnessed my parents selling coffee, and my sisters and I also helped sell. Later, my parents continued to sell coffee, and I worked as an accountant for more than ten years. My father passed away in 1993, and my mother continued to sell coffee until 2013, when she passed away. At that time, my sisters and I took over the shop. I quit accounting and returned to selling coffee because I wanted to preserve the reputation that my parents had built their whole lives," she said.

2. Phan Dinh Phung filter coffee, a "hot" destination for young people

The famous filter coffee shop at 330/2 Phan Dinh Phung (Phu Nhuan District) in Ho Chi Minh City has been around for over 60 years and is one of the few remaining filter coffee shops in Ho Chi Minh City.

To preserve the original flavor of filter coffee, Mr. Pham Van Quy (51 years old), a third-generation descendant in the family, was determined to follow in his parents' footsteps.

The owner once shared with Thanh Nien Newspaper that the shop was opened by his grandfather in 1954, and in 1975 his parents took over, and in the past few years it has been his and his siblings' turn to take over. Previously, the shop only operated during the day, but now the number of customers is increasing, so the whole family takes turns selling 24/7.

Mr. The Le (20 years old) said he learned about the coffee shop through social networks when he was still in his hometown. Since coming to Ho Chi Minh City to study, he and his friends have had the opportunity to visit this shop.

"Young people like old, nostalgic things, and this half-century-old coffee shop is the ideal destination. I come to the shop because of the social media effect, but I stick around because I like the drinks and the atmosphere here," he added.

3. Ba Lu Coffee in the heart of Cho Lon

Ba Lu Coffee Shop has a history of over 70 years in Phung Hung Market, Cho Lon area (District 5). Up to now, the shop still maintains the old style of roasting and grinding with firewood, adding butter, salt, and wine to create a characteristic aroma.

The taste of Chinese coffee is quite light, fragrant and slightly rich, easily pleasing to the connoisseur. Although the first owner of the shop, Mr. Ba Lu, has passed away, his children are still loyal to the old traditional roasting method, so the taste has remained the same over the years.
