Female veterans shine in everyday life

Not inferior to their male comrades, many female veterans strive to develop the economy, shine in peacetime, and contribute to building an increasingly prosperous homeland. When their lives are stable, they are dedicated to the journey of “helping life, helping people”, spreading the spirit of comradeship.

Having “gone through life and death” on the battlefield, when peace was restored, Heroine of the People’s Armed Forces Nguyen Vu Minh Nguyet (Hai Chau ward) continued to contribute to helping people with a kind heart. Ms. Nguyet was a guerrilla in Son Vien commune (now Nong Son commune, Da Nang city) from the age of 13, and in 1969 joined the local army, fighting in Nong Son commune.

She participated in battles such as Khe Canh field (Nong Son commune) where she destroyed many American - puppet troops; or commanded the destruction of an American - puppet commando platoon in Nui Chua. In 1971, she was wounded and transferred to the North for treatment, and is currently a 3/4 disabled veteran.

There are currently 112 veteran production establishments, enterprises, and cooperatives in Da Nang; of which 8 are owned by female veterans. In 2024, the Veteran Entrepreneurs Association contributed 8 billion VND to carry out charitable activities in the Central provinces; donated more than 700 million VND to support the northern mountainous provinces to overcome the consequences of Typhoon Yagi .

After peace was restored, she worked at the People's Procuracy of Da Nang City and later held the position of Deputy Procurator. In August 2008, she retired and established Bao Nguyet Notary Office, creating stable jobs for many workers, including children of war veterans.

With a stable economy, she spends 300-500 million VND each year on charity work. Currently, she sponsors and provides 500,000 VND/month for 4 students who are children of war veterans until they turn 18; and supports 3 million VND/month for two families of war invalids in difficult circumstances in Hai Chau and Thanh Khe wards.

In her hometown of Nong Son, she donated 50 million VND to build a new house for poor family Nguyen Thi Hong and donated funds to renovate the old Son Vien Commune Martyrs' Cemetery - where 880 martyrs' graves are resting. On holidays and Tet, Ms. Nguyet gives hundreds of gifts to families of policy beneficiaries and people in difficult circumstances in the Central provinces.

Ms. Nguyet confided: “The war is long gone and I will never forget my fallen comrades. They remain, and I live on. Therefore, I must live a worthy life, and share whatever I can with society.”

For veteran Ho Thi Thang (Hai Chau ward), on her journey from soldier to civilian life, she has made efforts to develop the economy and constantly help her comrades as well as the less fortunate. Ms. Thang joined the special forces in Hoi An ward at the age of 12, taking on the role of liaison, supply, and delivery of documents to the army.

After the country's reunification, she joined the local military administration and then turned to economic development. At the end of 1975, she started a seafood import-export business, and in 2001, she established Phuoc Duc Thang Import-Export Company Limited, specializing in trading agricultural products. Not only did she enrich herself legitimately, she also created jobs for many workers, including the children and grandchildren of war veterans.

Many people admire Ms. Thang because she is not only successful in business, but also has a heart full of compassion. Every year, she donates 500 - 800 million VND to charity. Accordingly, she takes care of 11 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in Da Nang city. Although only 4 mothers are still alive, she still regularly cares for, visits and looks after them like her own relatives.

Every year, she gives about 1,000 gifts to the poor in the Central provinces and supports the construction of 3-4 houses for veterans and meritorious people.

Mr. Tran Nhat Ninh, Vice President of the Da Nang City Veterans Business Association, said that many veteran members in the area have strived to become rich through their own labor and intelligence; at the same time, they have actively participated in social and charity work.

This is a strong source of inspiration, clearly demonstrating the core role of veterans in economic development while preserving and promoting the noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers in peacetime.

In the coming time, the association will focus on building a team of veteran entrepreneurs with strong political will, dynamism, daring to think and act, linking economic development with comradeship and social responsibility.
