Sending all the love in every simple meal

Every July, the whole country remembers the outstanding children who died for the independence and freedom of the nation. It is not only an opportunity to pay tribute to those who contributed to the revolution, but also an opportunity for today's generation to review the heroic traditions of their ancestors. The youth of Hai Phong city organize many meaningful activities, of which the most prominent is the program "Gratitude Meal".

In Tien Lang commune, on the morning of July 13, the commune Youth Union organized a "Gratitude Meal" program at the family of Mr. Vu Hong Luong - Hero of the People's Armed Forces, 1/4 class disabled veteran, revolutionary soldier imprisoned by the enemy during the resistance war.

The youth union members personally went to the market, prepared and cooked simple but meaningful dishes. The atmosphere of the family meal was filled with emotions. The laughter, life stories, and war stories that Mr. Luong shared with today's youth not only moved many young people to tears, but also helped them visualize more clearly the hardships that their fathers and brothers had experienced.

“Having young people come to visit and cook a meal like this warms my heart. During the war, we ate rice mixed with potatoes, rice balls mixed with sand… Now that I am living in peace , seeing the young generation living with love and remembering their predecessors, I feel very happy,” Mr. Vu Hong Luong said, moved.

For many members, participating in the program is not only a movement activity, but also a deeper understanding of history, morality and patriotism. Member Nguyen Minh Thu, Tien Lang commune, shared: “Before, I only knew about July 27 through books, but when I was able to cook and eat with the wounded soldier, listening to him talk about his years of fighting and imprisonment, I felt more moved and appreciated my current life than ever.”

Not only Tien Lang, communes and wards such as An Duong, Do Son, Kien An, Le Chan... also simultaneously implemented the program "Gratitude Meal" at the homes of policy families, war invalids, martyrs, "Heroic Vietnamese Mothers" in the area. Although the scale of each place is different, the common point is sincere feelings, simple sharing through each dish, each greeting.

Connecting generations – Spreading love

Through "Gratitude Meals", the young generation learns more historical stories and cultivates more love for the Fatherland.

Assessing the significance of the program, comrade Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, Hai Phong City Youth Union, said that the city's youth today determined that gratitude is not just about speeches or bouquets of flowers, but needs to be expressed through specific, close actions that come from the heart, implemented flexibly and creatively depending on the characteristics of each locality. The "Gratitude Meal" is the highlight in the series of activities "Repaying gratitude" on the occasion of July 27 of the city's youth this year.

Youth Unions of communes, wards and special zones in the city simultaneously organized gratitude meals for "Vietnamese Heroic Mothers", families of war invalids, martyrs, families of policy beneficiaries, and people with meritorious services, with a total of 138 meals.

The precious thing is that through such programs, the spirit of "Drinking water, remembering its source" is not only reminded but also revived in the actions of each union member and youth. That is the image of young hands washing vegetables, lighting the stove, asking about the health of wounded soldiers as if they were their own relatives. That is the touching eyes of war veterans when seeing that today's youth still know how to listen, still cherish and preserve the heroic memories of the nation. This is an activity that demonstrates the fine tradition of "Drinking water, remembering its source, repaying gratitude" of the nation, reminding today's generation of the great contributions, the silent sacrifices of previous generations, those who did not spare their blood and bones to have peace and independence as today.

“The Gratitude Meal” is not just a physical meal, but a bridge connecting the past and the present, between generations who have contributed and those who are continuing the revolutionary ideal. With sincerity, closeness and warmth, the program has contributed to clarifying the traditional values of the nation – where gratitude is always nurtured and spread. That is the journey that the youth of Hai Phong city is continuing to write – a generation that does not forget history, is deeply grateful and lives responsibly for the future of the country.
