Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung attended the inauguration of Coherent Vietnam Factory.

Also attending were Ms. Anne Benjaminson, Acting Consul General of the United States in Ho Chi Minh City; leaders of the Coherent Group globally and leaders of Coherent Vietnam.

Coherent Corporation is a leading high-tech corporation in the United States, founded in 1971, with the initial field of manufacturing materials and optics for industrial lasers. Today, Coherent operates in more than 20 countries and is an important supply partner for many large technology corporations in the world .

In Vietnam, Coherent started investing in 2005. On October 31, 2023, Coherent Group had a meeting with the leaders of Dong Nai province to propose investing in 3 high-tech projects in Nhon Trach Industrial Park 1 and 2. In 2024, the Provincial People's Committee granted investment certificates to 3 Coherent projects with an initial capital of 127 million USD. From there, the group deployed the investment and inaugurated the factory in Nhon Trach Industrial Park 1.

The Coherent facility is designed for scalability, flexibility and sustainability to meet the growing global demand for advanced technologies. The facility will play a key role in accelerating silicon carbide and optics capabilities, which are essential for the transformation of industrial systems, high-speed communications and data center infrastructure. The facility will strengthen the company’s supply chain, shorten delivery times and provide more efficient access to key Asian markets.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that this is an important event for Dong Nai as well as Vietnam's semiconductor industry, taking place at the right time to celebrate 30 years of Vietnam - US diplomatic relations, this is also the time when Vietnam is determined to build and develop the semiconductor industry; realizing the US's commitments to support Vietnam. The Deputy Prime Minister expects Coherent to make practical contributions, helping Vietnam become an important link, a semiconductor center in the future.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung highly appreciated the coordination of ministries, sectors, localities and corporations in promoting the Vietnamese semiconductor industry ecosystem and quickly implementing the construction of the factory. The inauguration of the Coherent Factory is a worthy achievement for Vietnam's efforts in attracting investment in strategic technology industries, especially semiconductors and high technology.

To make Coherent Group a "strategic partner" of Dong Nai and Vietnam, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the group continue to expand its investment in depth, especially in stages with higher added value in the semiconductor industry value chain. Along with that, it is necessary to pay attention to training and using high-quality human resources in Vietnam, strengthening connections with research institutes and universities to form a comprehensive and sustainable innovation ecosystem.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Ha said that Coherent's projects are key areas in the local development orientation that Dong Nai is pursuing.
