After flash floods and landslides in communes of Son La province, 6 people died and went missing. In response to the above situation, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province sent an official dispatch to the Governor of Huaphanh province, Lao People's Democratic Republic, requesting coordination and support in searching for people in Son La province swept away by the Ma River flood.

On July 27, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province issued Official Dispatch No. 4060/UBND-KGVX informing and requesting Huaphanh province to coordinate and support relevant forces of Son La province in organizing the search for people of Son La province swept away by floods on the Ma River.

Initial information has identified that one resident of Chieng So commune was swept away by floodwaters on the Ma River to the territory of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, in the Huaphanh province, bordering the old Song Ma border district.

Currently, the number of people missing due to floods in Chieng So and Muong Lam communes (formerly Song Ma district) is 3. The authorities of Son La province are actively reviewing and directing the coordination of forces and Huaphanh province to search for the missing people.

According to reports from the communes of Song Ma, Sop Cop, Huoi Mot, Chieng So, Muong Lam, Chieng La, Muong Khieng, floods have damaged many houses of the people. Of these, 2 houses were swept away and completely collapsed, 27 houses had to be urgently evacuated; 110 hectares of rice were flooded and buried; more than 600 cattle and poultry were buried and swept away.

In some communes of the old Song Ma district, many incidents have occurred causing damage to the power system. Currently, 33 transformer stations have lost power, including 1 customer transformer station, with a total of 3,471 customers affected.

The floods also affected: 5 Viettel stations, 78 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G stations of VNPT in Song Ma district, Sop Cop (old) lost mobile communication network. Many fiber optic cables are broken; 19 telecommunication poles fell...

Along with mobilizing forces to search for missing people, Son La province has mobilized forces directly to the grassroots level with communes and villages to support food and provisions; evacuate people and property and arrange temporary accommodation for households whose houses were swept away by floods and those who had to be urgently evacuated.

At 9:00 a.m. on July 28, the Son La Province Hydrometeorological Station continued to warn of the risk of flooding and the possibility of other natural disasters due to the slow-decreasing river water level, which could cause landslides in low-lying areas along the river, destroying bridges, culverts, and roads along rivers and streams.

Son La Province's Hydrometeorological Station also warned: Due to the impact of heavy rain in the past few days, there will be a high risk of flooding in some communes and wards; a high risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep hillsides, road embankments and land subsidence in areas with poor soil structure in the province.
