On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), Dan Tri reporter had an interview with Journalist Ho Quang Loi, Vice President of Vietnam Digital Communications Association, former Permanent Vice President of Vietnam Journalists Association to better understand the story of journalism.
Throughout his years of working, Journalist Ho Quang Loi always kept in mind that his pen must always maintain its fighting spirit and humanity in any circumstance.
Journalism affirms value through responsibility, ethics, and professionalism.
He shared that in the 100-year history of Vietnam's revolutionary press, we have recorded more than 500 martyr journalists who sacrificed their lives in resistance wars and in the cause of building and defending the country. This is an extremely proud and touching contribution of the press to the country.
Not only in war do journalists demonstrate their spirit of dedication, dedication and sacrifice, but even in peacetime, reporters and journalists face countless dangers because of the silent and fierce battles.
Besides, in the current digital media era, the press is facing many great opportunities but at the same time also has to face countless challenges and difficulties.
Correctly perceiving the great opportunities as well as seeing all the difficulties and challenges is the job not only of press agencies and journalists but also requires the vision of those who plan and operate national policies so that we can build a truly effective Press Law that meets the requirements for the development of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press in the new era, the new era.

From that thought, Journalist Ho Quang Loi saw that directly press agencies and journalists cannot help but change their working methods in the digital media era.
Changing the way we work is a must for us to build an increasingly modern and professional press.
"Over the past 100 years, our revolutionary press has followed the flag and ideal of doing journalism for the benefit of the country and the people, so the credibility and persuasiveness of the press is the most important thing in the digital media era," emphasized journalist Ho Quang Loi.
He acknowledged that the press will never surpass social networks in terms of news reporting speed, but we must affirm our core values through responsibility, professional ethics, and professionalism of journalists.
Although the press is facing great, specific, and urgent difficulties and challenges, looking at the overall career of the Vietnamese revolutionary press, its contribution to the common cause of the country and the people over the past century is very proud.
Journalist Ho Quang Loi believes that press agencies assigned political tasks must be guaranteed the necessary, basic conditions to do their jobs. Do not let press agencies and journalists struggle with making ends meet.
We must make sure that journalists can do their jobs properly and decently, and to do this we must do well in journalism economics .
According to Mr. Loi, press economics is not the private matter of press agencies but a common issue of press agencies in relation to press management and administration agencies. Therefore, this is the responsibility of state management agencies, governing agencies, press agencies and journalists themselves.
Journalist Ho Quang Loi also said that we are living in the digital media era, on social networks there is a lot of good information but besides that there is also bad and toxic information and the responsibility of journalists is to select and verify information on social networks; the press must be the answer to all the issues that social networks bring up.
That means journalists, with political responsibility, social responsibility and professional ethics, must control information and use it responsibly to ensure that information posted on the media is accurate and reliable.
Journalists and reporters must work with the motto of objectivity, impartiality, respect for the truth, protection of justice and reason, for the benefit of the community, country and people.
Recently, we have been talking a lot about artificial intelligence and have not been able to fully imagine the limits of AI. Journalist Ho Quang Loi commented that AI is just a cold machine, using information data and enhanced algorithms, so the responsibility of journalists is to understand the thoughts and aspirations of the people.
Because AI has no heart, no soul, it cannot fully understand the real emotions and real needs of the human heart and soul.
This is the time for journalists to play their role, publishing honest, objective, emotional information that understands people and life.
Content related to technology
Many people say that at some point artificial intelligence will control humans and humans will become confused when using AI, according to Mr. Loi if this happens, it will be the most painful and terrible failure of humans. Therefore, he believes that humans are smart enough to never let this terrible thing happen.
Journalist Ho Quang Loi assessed that traditional journalism will never lose its value but must know how to use technology.
That means journalists must be both politically steadfast and professionally proficient; being professionally proficient in the current digital media era means not only being good at content but also being able to use media, becoming a technology keyword.
Therefore, content and technology must be closely linked in the process of producing press products, and if combined, press will certainly have power in the digital media era, Journalist Ho Quang Loi affirmed.
Colonel, Journalist Do Phu Tho, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Veterans Newspaper, assessed that along with the development of social networks comes the development of fake news, toxic news, and news containing wrong views. The responsibility of journalists is to expose fake news and frankly fight against wrong and hostile views.
In Vietnam, some social networking sites have used AI to imitate the voices and images of some Party and State leaders, posting false information that misleads readers.
Therefore, in this digital age, it is the responsibility of journalists to expose and name untrue phenomena and products brought forth by some bad actors about the situation of the country.
He believes that in order to be able to quickly detect bad and toxic information on social networks, journalists need to cultivate professional ethics, have strong political will and the necessary knowledge of science and technology to be able to quickly detect, identify, warn and provide solutions to handle false information.
Journalist Nguyen Van Ba, Editor-in-Chief of VietNamNet newspaper,
According to Journalist Nguyen Van Ba, Editor-in-Chief of VietNamNet, there are two points that the press needs to pay attention to today. One is to change its role, not to race to report news but to be the verifier to provide the most accurate information.
Second, every journalist, agency, and reporter must return to the core of their previous work, which is verifying information from 2 to 3 different sources.
Currently, AI helps journalists provide information very quickly, suggests ways to create attractive content, headlines, and writing styles, and finds a lot of additional information, but there is also false information, bad information that needs to be verified.
To use AI effectively, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Ba, journalists must understand the nature of AI.
AI is inferential in nature, so there will come a time when there is no more data to infer, leading to random suggestions. In the end, even if the story is AI, journalists still have to be sensitive, and that is the sensitivity of journalists, there are things that only humans can understand and discover.
The state needs to create conditions for the press to increase revenue.
Editor-in-Chief of VietNamNet Nguyen Van Ba added that in recent years, due to the impact of the market economy and some social influences such as epidemics and digital technology, newspaper advertising has decreased sharply, which has also led to great difficulties for the newspaper economy.
Mr. Ba acknowledged that there are two reasons for the decline in press revenue: First, there is not enough capacity and ability to keep up with changes in technology and market developments; second, in addition to competing with social networking platforms, the press is also regulated by regulations of management agencies related to its operations.
Therefore, many units cannot create content that attracts readers and attracts advertising as freely as social platforms.
According to Mr. Ba, it is very difficult to restore advertising in the press. Therefore, the State needs to have tax mechanisms to help the press accumulate.
"The State is a large consumer of policies, so it needs to introduce its policies to the people through the media. Therefore, the State needs funding to do this, and this funding is allocated to the press agencies," said Mr. Ba.
Journalism is not a job that can make a lot of money, so journalists who want to stick with the profession must first have passion. Only with passion can one go to work and be willing to go hungry to work,...
According to Associate Professor Dr. Bui Dinh Phong, one of the most fundamental things for a journalist is to have a firm ideological stance. In the past, that stance was to firmly grasp Marxism-Leninism; today, it is the morality and ideology of Ho Chi Minh.
Journalists and reporters must have a firm political stance to be able to write good articles.
"In current conditions, based on such political stance, journalists must actively practice ethics, expertise, culture, foreign languages, etc. to produce good articles as Uncle Ho taught.
Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Dinh Phong (Photo: Nguyen Hai).
"The best, the most beautiful things of people, the nation, humanity,... must come through the press and be expressed by the sharp pen of journalists," Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Dinh Phong emphasized.
For those things that hinder the progress of humanity, hinder the culture, journalists have the responsibility to prevent them.
In the past time, in general, the team of journalists has protected the Party's ideological foundation and protected Ho Chi Minh's thought.
However, he said that there are still some flaws here and there, but they are only a minority, and the task has basically been completed well.
In the 40 years of national renovation, there have been many factors for the country to develop and it must be affirmed that one extremely important factor is the contribution of journalists. This contribution is that journalists always firmly grasp their sharp weapons: the pen, Marxism-Leninism, and Ho Chi Minh thought.
