Nguyen Van Toan injured, out of action for long term

(NLDO) - Striker Nguyen Van Toan just had surgery on a knee cartilage injury on August 13 and will have to sit out until the end of the first leg of the 2025-2026 V-League.

Nguyen Van Toan contributed to helping Vietnam win the 2024 ASEAN Cup but has also suffered from persistent injuries since this tournament. The striker of Nam Dinh Club has just had surgery on a meniscus injury in Ho Chi Minh City and needs at least 5-6 months to recover.

Previously, Van Toan's injury was determined by the doctor to not be serious enough to require surgery. However, in the second leg of the 2024-2025 V-League, Van Toan could not regain his form and played below his potential due to a recurrence of his injury.

Therefore, Van Toan had to undergo surgery and needed a long time to fully recover. According to Dr. Tran Huy Tho of the Vietnam national team, knee cartilage surgery only solves 50% of the injury and the rest is recovery training.

The absence of the striker born in 1996 not only affects Nam Dinh Club's goal of defending the V-League title but also causes coach Kim Sang-sik to lose a pillar in the process of preparing the Vietnamese team for upcoming international matches.
