Join hands to build the country

Vietnamese Consul General in San Francisco Hoang Anh Tuan reported on the activities of overseas Vietnamese in San Francisco. Immediately afterwards, overseas Vietnamese representatives shared their opinions and highly appreciated the country's recent achievements in socio -economic development, integration and foreign affairs, with the correct and appropriate foreign policy of our Party and State; especially the elevation of the relationship between Vietnam and the United States to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on the occasion of the State visit to Vietnam by US President Joe Biden, meeting the expectations of the people of the two countries.

Overseas Vietnamese expressed their emotion at the attention of the Party and State with the view that the overseas Vietnamese community is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese ethnic community; put forward a number of proposals and recommendations to contribute to building the homeland and country to become increasingly prosperous, such as: joining hands in training human resources, especially human resources in the information technology industry, teaching and learning Vietnamese, strengthening connections with highly qualified Vietnamese people in the United States and around the world, etc.

Among them, overseas Vietnamese, Professor Phan Man expressed his joy at the development of Vietnam-US relations, from two countries, peoples, two cultures and two ideologies that were quite unfamiliar but have sat down and come closer to become partners.

He hopes that the Vietnamese community, wherever they are, will stick together to work towards a richer, more prosperous and civilized Vietnam.

Professor Phan Man shared: "For a long time, I have always been deeply moved by a statement of the State: Overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part of the homeland, the people, and the country of Vietnam. How can we concretize this statement, what policies and activities of the Government can help our compatriots in the US experience this meaningful statement?"

He hopes that the Government will always pay attention to the aspirations of overseas talents who want to contribute to a prosperous Vietnam.

Dr. Tran Viet Hung, founder of Got It, a technology startup that has raised $25 million in investment capital and is headquartered in Silicon Valley, USA, shared his joy when the two countries upgraded their relationship, creating many opportunities for Vietnam to take advantage of the technological strengths of the US, thereby creating technological solutions and developing the digital economy for Vietnam.

“We have always wanted the relationship between the two countries to develop further, because this is a great opportunity to develop technology for the country,” said Dr. Hung. However, he wondered how Vietnam could take advantage of this opportunity?

According to Dr. Hung, the key point here is how to build a high-quality workforce that Vietnam is lacking. Meanwhile, Vietnam has many talented people currently living and working around the world, especially in Silicon Valley.

“We believe that young Vietnamese people working in technology, not only in the United States but also around the world, are always willing to join hands with the country to train high-quality human resources,” said Dr. Hung.

According to statistics, in a year Vietnam trains about 50,000 technology engineers from universities and colleges, but only about 6,000 engineers can produce technology with quality equivalent to that in the US. "We are ready to support the process of training high-quality human resources for the country," Dr. Tran Hung emphasized.

Representing the youth, Ms. To Dieu Lien expressed her wish to have a mechanism to help young Vietnamese people in the United States have more opportunities to contribute to the country. This includes the “American Arms” initiative, which helps connect and gather Vietnamese students studying across the country to connect and spread the spirit of solidarity and turn towards the homeland.

Regarding continuing the tradition and preserving the Vietnamese language, overseas Vietnamese Thuy Vu believes that it is necessary to further promote educational cooperation between the two countries, as well as introduce Vietnamese into teaching at some universities in the United States. Ms. Thuy recalled Pham Quynh's speech: "As long as our language remains, our country remains" and called on overseas Vietnamese to work together to preserve the Vietnamese language.

Hope 2.2 million overseas Vietnamese continue to accompany the country

The atmosphere of the meeting was warm and joyful from the beginning when the Prime Minister, on behalf of the delegation, invited overseas Vietnamese and delegates to enjoy the hometown cakes brought from the Fatherland during the working trip.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his pleasure to meet the Vietnamese community in San Francisco and surrounding areas, exactly 1 year and 4 months after the meeting during his previous working trip to the United States.

The Prime Minister sent to all delegates present at the meeting and all overseas Vietnamese in the United States greetings, regards, and wishes for health, happiness, and success from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the leaders of our Party and State.

The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Joe Biden's announcement to upgrade Vietnam-US relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, reflecting the stature of the relationship, in line with the interests of the two peoples, and actively contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The Prime Minister assessed that the Vietnam-US relationship is quite special, with many unique characteristics: from the two countries being at war to the normalization of relations in 1995, then signing the Bilateral Trade Agreement in 2001, establishing a Comprehensive Partnership in 2013 and recently, establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

These are the results of the efforts of both sides, thereby realizing the wishes of President Ho Chi Minh, the national liberation hero and world cultural celebrity of Vietnam in relations with the United States. With the milestones and achievements that have been achieved, the Vietnam-US relationship is a model in the history of international relations in terms of healing and building relations after the war.

The Prime Minister said that the visit affirmed the United States' respect for Vietnam's political system, through the US President accepting the invitation of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the General Secretary welcomed and held talks with the US President at the Party Central Committee headquarters; the United States declared its support for a "strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous" Vietnam.

With this event, for the first time, Vietnam has established strategic partnerships with all five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. In addition, many other countries are also looking to upgrade their diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

In addition, the Prime Minister said that economy - trade - investment continues to be a bright spot and driving force of bilateral relations with two-way turnover reaching over 123 billion USD by 2022. Cooperation between the two countries in science - technology, education - training, security - defense, overcoming the consequences of war, responding to climate change, people-to-people exchange, etc. continues to achieve many important advances.

In the context of the complex and unpredictable changes in the world situation, the Prime Minister informed the people of some highlights of the domestic situation. Accordingly, the macro economy is basically stable, inflation is controlled, growth is promoted, and major balances are ensured. In 2022, the total GDP will reach 409 billion USD, among the 40 largest economies in the world; growth of over 8%, the highest increase in the period from 2011 to 2022; total import-export turnover will reach a record of over 732 billion USD, with a trade surplus of over 11 billion USD.

In the first 9 months of 2023, the socio-economic situation continued to have many bright spots in all fields with the trend of "next month is better than the previous month, next quarter is better than the previous quarter".

Along with that, the fight against corruption and negativity has been vigorously implemented, receiving the support of the people. Social security has been ensured, and the material and spiritual life of the people has been improved. National defense and security have been strengthened, national independence and sovereignty have been maintained; political security and social order and safety have been ensured. Foreign affairs and international integration have been proactively, positively, effectively and comprehensively implemented.

The Prime Minister reiterated the statement of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong: “Our country has never had such a foundation, potential, position and international prestige as it does today.” The Prime Minister said that many international opinions also consider Vietnam a model of stability and development.

The Prime Minister emphasized that these achievements were thanks to the drastic participation of the entire political system under the leadership and direction of the Central Executive Committee, directly and regularly led by the Politburo and the Secretariat, headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the attention and assistance of international friends, the support and active participation of the people, the business community and overseas Vietnamese, including the Vietnamese community in the United States.

The Head of Government highly appreciated the development steps and the role and contribution of the overseas Vietnamese community to the development of the country. The overseas Vietnamese community in general is increasing in number and expanding in area with about 6 million people in more than 130 countries and territories, of which 0.6 million are experts and intellectuals. Of which, in the United States alone there are about 2.2 million people, the largest in the world, the number of Vietnamese people on the West Coast alone is up to more than 1 million people, of which in San Francisco there are 700,000 people.

The Prime Minister reiterated the Joint Statement between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Joe Biden: "The two leaders highly appreciated the great contributions of the Vietnamese community in the United States to the development of bilateral relations. President Biden affirmed that the Vietnamese-American community is one of the most successful, dynamic, and creative communities in the United States."

The Prime Minister affirmed that the Party and State always pay attention to the overseas Vietnamese community in general and our compatriots in the United States in particular, "an inseparable part and a resource of the Vietnamese ethnic community", through the promulgation and implementation of Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW and Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW of the Politburo on the work of overseas Vietnamese.

With the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the United States, especially creating more opportunities for trade and investment activities (currently, US investment in Vietnam has only reached about 11 billion USD), the Prime Minister hopes that in the coming time, the Vietnamese community in the United States will become increasingly united and united, each year will be more successful than the previous year, continue to accompany the country's development and contribute to the Vietnam-US relationship.

The Prime Minister shared the aspirations and proposals of the people, acknowledged the opinions and requested relevant ministries, branches and agencies to focus on reviewing, researching and soon having appropriate solutions in a timely and thorough spirit.

Also at the meeting, delegates enjoyed the art program "A glimpse of the homeland". The Prime Minister hopes that overseas Vietnamese, wherever they are, will make efforts to preserve and promote Vietnamese cultural identity, in the spirit of "culture lights the way for the nation", "as long as culture exists, the nation exists".
