With the belief that "As long as you are healthy, you can work", Mr. Mai Xuan Thinh, an elderly person in Dong Thanh commune, has constantly strived and worked hard to bring economic benefits to his family and society. Mr. Thinh said: In 2016, he contracted 2 hectares of barren land to rent excavators, dig ponds... to build a comprehensive farm economic model. With determination and not afraid of difficulties, he studied scientific and technical advances to apply to livestock farming, built a 1,000m3 biogas tank system to treat waste and produce gas for livestock farming and daily life. Up to now, his family has raised 1,000 pigs, more than 1,000 poultry, 10 cows, 1 pond of fish for breeding, 1 pond of commercial fish... Every year, he sells 250 tons of live pigs, 2 tons of poultry, over 1 ton of fish... earning a profit of over 1 billion VND, creating regular jobs for 7 local workers.

Not only is he good at economics, in daily life, he is always exemplary, encouraging his children and grandchildren to comply well with the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws. He also regularly helps households in the commune with farming techniques, capital, breeds, animal feed; actively participates in social and charitable activities such as: Giving gifts to the elderly, children in difficult circumstances, supporting the construction of roads, building new rural areas...

In recent years, the emulation movement "Elderly people doing good business" has been identified by the Elderly Associations at all levels in the province as one of the key tasks. The movement has been widely deployed and promoted by the Elderly Associations at all levels and has received positive responses from a large number of officials and members of the Elderly Association. In order to create conditions for members to develop their family economy, many associations have mobilized members to help each other with production experience, advise on economic models suitable to family conditions and local conditions; coordinate with mass organizations, communities, and credit organizations to create capital sources to help poor elderly households with capital and means of production. With the accumulated knowledge and experience, the elderly in localities have directly participated in labor and production in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, salt production, industry, small-scale industry, business, and services, creating stable jobs for thousands of workers.

Through the emulation movement "Elderly people doing good business", more and more new models, creative ways of doing things, many typical examples of boldly applying scientific and technical advances, new technologies in production and business have appeared, bringing high economic efficiency. Currently, the whole province has over 335,000 elderly people directly involved in production and business, of which 4,776 elderly people own farms, enterprises, production and business establishments, creating jobs for tens of thousands of local workers. A typical example is Ms. Luong Thi Lai in Hac Thanh ward, Director of Minh Quang Steel Mesh Company Limited, an exemplary elderly person leading the emulation movements, doing good business, creating regular jobs for dozens of workers; Mr. Nguyen Ba Chau, Director of Dong Son Traditional Bronze Casting Company Limited - Dong Tea in Thieu Trung commune with a revenue of over 9 billion VND/year; Mr. Le Van Quang in Thieu Hoa commune grows Kim Hoang Hau melon and vegetables in greenhouses, creating jobs for 5-7 workers; the comprehensive farm model of Mr. Dinh Sy Tuan in Dong Son ward, with a profit of over 200 million VND/year...

In order to improve the quality of life for the elderly in difficult circumstances, the province has established 1,252 intergenerational self-help clubs, attracting over 77,000 members to participate in activities. The clubs are managing capital to increase income by over 91 billion VND, helping over 15,000 members to borrow capital, develop the economy, and improve the quality of life. With the above results, Thanh Hoa is the leading province in the country in building and expanding the intergenerational self-help club model.

The movement "Elderly people doing good business" in recent times has truly become an effective movement, promoting the role, position and potential of the elderly, actively contributing to accelerating economic growth, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty, building and developing Thanh Hoa province to become increasingly rich, beautiful and civilized.
