The ancient house, after nearly two centuries, still retains the ancient Southern style.

The ancient house of Mr. Tran Tuan Kiet's family in Dong Hoa Hiep commune (Cai Be district, Tien Giang province) was built in 1838, is one of the "Nine beautiful houses" of Vietnam and is recognized by UNESCO as a Cultural Heritage of Asia.

Nestled in the middle of a 1.8 hectare orchard. The house has 5 rooms, nearly 1,000 square ^meters wide with 108 pillars made of rare rosewood.

The house was built around 1838. After nearly 200 years, the house is still intact.

On the wooden rafters, windows, and railings, one can see many delicate and skillful carvings of pine, chrysanthemum, bamboo, and apricot motifs.

In addition, the house still preserves many sets of mother-of-pearl inlaid parallel sentences, elaborately carved tables and chairs, and many rare porcelain items.

Mrs. Le Thi Chinh, wife of Mr. Tran Tuan Kiet, said that in the past, her husband's great-grandfather was a district magistrate, a person who loved antiques so much that he hired skilled workers from outside the capital Hue to build this house, which took several years to complete. He also spent a lot of money to collect many rare antiques.

In 2002, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funded more than 1.8 billion VND to repair this house, and sent a Japanese female architect to live on site to supervise the work for more than 6 months.

Thanks to that, Japanese experts have restored the entire architecture of the house and the interior decorations to their original state.
