Nghe An: More than 200 reservoirs are full of water, ensuring irrigation water for the summer-autumn crop

Unlike other years, at this time Nghe An often faces the situation of dry reservoirs due to prolonged heat, but this year, thanks to the influence of heavy rains lasting from the beginning of May until now, hundreds of reservoirs in the area have been filled with water.

This is a positive signal for agricultural production, but also poses many requirements in the operation and safety of dams during the flood season.

According to information from the Nghe An Irrigation Department, the province currently has 1,061 large and small reservoirs. During the recent rains, 278 reservoirs were full, of which 24 were managed by enterprises and 254 were managed by localities. In addition, 485 reservoirs had water levels of 70% or more, mainly concentrated in Yen Thanh, Nghia Dan, Do Luong, Dien Chau and Quynh Luu districts...

In Quynh Luu district, Mr. Nguyen Viet Thuong - Director of Quynh Luu Irrigation Enterprise said: The unit is managing 6 reservoirs, of which Khe Than reservoir (Quynh Tam commune) Quynh Luu district is full with a capacity of 4 million m³, the remaining reservoirs have reached 70% capacity. To ensure safety during the flood season, the force is on duty 24/7, monitoring the water level and ready to operate the spillway when necessary.

A representative of the Nghe An Irrigation Department said that, in the face of increasingly complex and unpredictable weather conditions, the unit has requested localities and reservoir management units to regularly update hydrometeorological forecast information, thereby adjusting operating plans in accordance with reality. At the same time, it is necessary to closely coordinate with local authorities to fully implement the "4 on-site" motto, manage and operate reservoirs according to technical procedures to ensure the safety of reservoirs and dams.

The goal is to both ensure water storage and regulation for agricultural production and daily life, and contribute to flood control and reduce the risk of flooding in downstream areas.

However, it is worrying that there are still some reservoirs in the area that have degraded, posing a potential risk of being unsafe during the upcoming flood season.

Therefore, the inspection, repair and upgrading of irrigation works is still a priority task to ensure water resources for production and minimize damage to downstream areas.
