On the morning of June 26, more than 1.15 million candidates nationwide officially entered the first exam session of the 2025 high school graduation exam with the Literature subject. This is the first exam to be applied uniformly according to the 2018 GeneralEducation Program, with many adjustments to the exam format, content and structure.
In Hanoi , candidates arrived at the exam site in a favorable atmosphere, with careful preparation from the candidates, they entered the first challenge with the Literature subject with a fairly confident mentality. Compared to previous years, this year's high school graduation exam is considered to have a higher classification, requiring candidates to apply independent thinking instead of memorizing. In particular, the Literature exam is not limited to textbooks but expanded to social and current issues, in order to encourage students' critical thinking, creative thinking and practical understanding.
The high school graduation exam has long been more than just a final exam, it is also the gateway to university, career and the future of millions of students. In 2025, in the context of curriculum transformation and increased assessment of real capacity, the exam is expected to accurately reflect the quality of education and adaptability of the new generation of students.
According to the regulations of Ministry of Education and Training , this year candidates will take the graduation exam with 4 subjects, of which 2 are compulsory subjects: Literature and Mathematics. Literature is an essay test in 120 minutes, including 2 parts: Reading comprehension (4 points) and Writing (6 points). Mathematics is a multiple choice test in 90 minutes. The remaining two subjects candidates can choose from: Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology and Technology, each subject is a 50-minute multiple choice test.
The atmosphere of exam preparation shows seriousness and initiative in localities. According to the report of the Ministry of Education and Training, as of the afternoon of June 25, the whole country had 1,152,336 candidates coming to complete exam procedures, reaching a rate of 99.16%. Of which, candidates studying under the 2018 General Education Program accounted for the vast majority with 1,130,196 students, reaching a rate of 99.54%. The remaining 22,140 candidates took the exam under the 2006 General Education Program, reaching 88.73%. A total of 9,798 candidates did not come to complete exam procedures.
In Hanoi, according to the Department of Education and Training, the percentage of candidates present to complete procedures reached 99.09%. The city arranged 233 testing sites, of which 229 were for candidates studying the new program and 4 were for candidates studying the old program.
