Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 17 series in September 2025, most notably the screen will be upgraded to 120 Hz refresh rate for the iPhone 17 and 17 Air models.

This is considered one of the expected steps forward, extending the smooth display experience from the Pro versions down to the standard line.

However, they will not integrate ProMotion technology - a feature that automatically adjusts the scanning frequency (Adaptive Refresh Rate) from 1 Hz to 120 Hz.

The upgrade to 120Hz makes scrolling, zooming, and transitioning much smoother than the traditional 60Hz refresh rate. However, because they use a fixed LTPS panel, the iPhone 17 and 17 Air's displays won't be as power efficient as the LTPO panels used in the Pro.

This could impact the battery, especially with the 17 Air model expected to have a modest battery capacity.

Meanwhile, the Pro models (17 Pro and 17 Pro Max) will still maintain a premium experience with LTPO panels and the ability to flexibly adjust the refresh rate. This continues to be Apple's way of clearly differentiating between lines that suit different user needs and budgets.

In addition to the screen, the iPhone 17 is also expected to have a refined design with a smaller Dynamic Island, a new generation A18/A19 chip, 8-12 GB RAM and a 24 MP selfie camera. However, the screen upgraded to a 120 Hz refresh rate is still the most attractive feature for ordinary users.
